#1 Wanted. Valve pre amplifier

Post by bostod »

hello guys. I've currently got a pair of audiolab 8000m's in my second system. The current amplifier is a NVA passive preamp. My speakers are frugal horns with the new Mark Audio Alpair 7ms. And Rogers LS6A/2. I like the sound but it can get a little fatiguing, especially with female vocals, cymbals. But on other recordings it sounds great. My goal is to soften the high end and open things up a little. I don't really want to change the sound character too much. Looking for a cheap preamp to try ot if anyone has one for sale/loan.

Can you tell us (or remind us) which area you live in ?

What is the sound source ?

There are some cheapo valve pre/buffers on Ebay, Chinese of course, and knock off PCBs of the Musical Fidelity X1, which might have done you.

If you were a lot nearer to North Essex I would show you a couple.

Got a Dook audio(nobsound) 12AX7 Valve Tube Preamp secondhand for £110. Allready bought some Sovtek 12AX7 valves to replace the stock ones. Cheap place to start and can sellon for little loss if no good

Seems your definition of "cheap" is different to mine.
