Donald Fagen - The Nightfly - second hand off our Ant as mine is knackered.

“I’m Lester the nightfly hello Baton Rouge.
Won’t you turn your radio down,
Respect the SSSTHZZZeven second delay we use….”
and…
“I know a fellow with a motor launch for hire,
A SSSTHZkinny man with two-tone shoes…” FECKING BASTARD BLOODY VINYL!!!
Jesus!
Apart from those two minor irritations, it’s a nice album, in good nick.

Fleetwood Mac Kiln House (1970)

50 years old and not a spit, sizzle or PPFFT in sight. Yes, it’s a bit worn, but it sounds natural and unprocessed, unlike the album in the previous post.
Makes me wonder what happened in the ‘80s to pop vinyl LP mastering. I don’t care if the Fagen is a Bob Ludwig Masterdisk, or not, the mastering is still not a patch on the Fleetwood Mac from twelve years previous.
Everything that irritates the hell out of me with vinyl, was mastered in the ‘80s.

Help! Whereas I recognise Steely Dan as brilliant I don't like them. Donald Fagen ( I've even got his book) is generally recognised as the guy behind the genius.

Would The Nightfly be a way in to a better appreciation? Other than 'just lissnin' can youseguys give me some pointers please?
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

The Nightfly, Khamakiriad, Morph The Cat, and Sunken Condos are all great albums, but I’m too shallow, superficial and uncritical to be able to go deep into them. Somebody else who knows about music will have to do that. ‘I know what I like’ will have to do from me.

a total change of tack....
Xray spex - germfree adolescents  which is surprisingly well recorded for this type of stuff, punk usually sounds better if you gently go over the lp with some 60 grit to get the distortion

The sleeve is completely knackered, the inner sleeve was stuck to the label so the label is also completely ruined. My copy looks a right state. Quite apt
