"best" in this instance is a personal judgement of what one has heard, probably the favourite in that area.

For instance, I could name the"best" amp that I had heard, but I could not name the "best" amp in the world because I have not heard any where enough of the possible contenders.

NEVER ONCE in a one on one comparison with the standard NVA AP10h has the NVA lost or not been bought NOT ONCE!!!! that I know about, well over 100 units out there. So you can pretty much bet that Jammy is right seeing as his version is way ahead of the standard.

Unlike other manufacturers I am not scared of any challenge or comparison and we publish the results in the NVA room at HFS. We give full no quibble refund to anyone who is in anyway unhappy.

I have no doubt that Jammys NVA headphone amp is a fine piece of equipment, and he obviously loves what it does.

PS To my knowledge I have NEVER rubbished any NVA product. How could I as I've never, ever heard anything made by NVA.

So that makes you an expert to comment does it. At least Jammy has knowledge of the product, yet you call him

Maybe worth going back to what Mudshark said, his "it cant be bettered" was prefixed by the fact that no one has commented. Is it worth all this?

I know, it cant be bettered.

Noddy you have misinterpreted my comments.....
I was using a bit of sarcastic humour due to the lack of reply. (obviously I must try harder)

Of course there may be better headphone amps out there....
The Sennheiser Orpheus may well stake a claim.

But ive listened to dedicated can amps both SS & Valve from -

Bryston
SPL Phonitor
Burson
McIntosh
Oppo
Burson
Trilogy
Fostex

Spent an enjoyable evening playing with "big boys toys" whilst on the hunt for headphones (Settled on Audeze LCD3).

And despite all of the above being a damn site (rip-off) more expensive than my 3 box NVA special none sounded as good.

hopefully back on topic :D

I was asked to build a headphone amp and eventually went for a triode strapped E55L with custom C-core output transformers

HT is a 5Y3 - LC then LC to each channel. the transformers have dual centre tapped secondaries for high/low impedance, as well and floating or earthed centre taps..... sorting out the switching was fun

Seems to work quite nicely, think I may use the E55L again :D
