This confirms what I've long suspected.

Well, I have only heard it on the OB's yet (need to take my headphones home tonight), and of course in mono, as I have only built one chan, but I think very nice, hugely "organic" to use the description elsewhere. I think it might sound very very nice on SteveS's spekers as its only good for 6 or so watts (its aimed at powering AKG1000 as well as normal phones).

Things to do include get the noise/hum on the output down to 30uv, which I think will give me a 80dB S/N ratio with normal phones, and decide if it needs a optional 801 stage before the first 211. The idea is to use the 801 for the AKG phones, and bipass it (and power down) for normal headphones.

Its intended to be a two box design, so that will help on the noise front.

I quite like the thought of two huge boxes sat in the living room, especially if they hummed quietly when anyone approached them . Some may think it's a bloke thing, but I like to think of it as an uncompromising approach! I think it's ever since I went to Japan and saw big boxes in hi fi shops.

I still remember seeing a pair of 833 amps at a hifi show about 6 years ago, they were about the size of half filling cabinets. Not sure if they sold any though. I was musing about building something around a 450tl or similar, but housing the entire thing in a perspect case so it was all visable.

Yep, just proving the idea will work. I don't have enough space to build both on a board, so I will have to try getting some into a chassis just to try both chans. I should have space to add the 801 stage if needed.

I imagined a bunch of structural beams and planes supporting the various bits of perspex. Maybe it would be in place in space 1999.

Nick,

you'd be wanting to use Cast Acrylic (perspex) then as oposed to the hot rolled stuff. The cast is much much structurally sound.
