#1 Loudspeaker switching relay.

Post by shane »

A while ago I rebuilt the energiser unit of my ancient Stax electrostatic headphones. Since they connect directly to the speaker terminals of the amp, I built in a relay to switch the amp output from speakers to phones when the unit is powered up.

The thing’s been languishing in the shed for some months due to house moves and so on, but when I dug it out today, one channel was dead. The relay is a 4pole double throw device. One pole is o/c and the other three are reading several hundred ohms, so it looks like the relay is knackered. Not surprising really, since it was one that had been knocking around in a box of bits for the best part of 50 years when I built the box.

Any recommendations for a decent quality replacement? Switching voltage is 12v.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.
