Yes, I was thinking about that, when looking at various schematics. The EF80 looks to be a good driver for the 45 as far as I can make out. Many years ago I built a Yamamoto A-08S 45 Amp kit for someone. That used a 717A as the driver valve, that was running as a pentode, you you could try the EF80 like that instead of triode strapped. The EF80 is not that dissimilar.
