Hi Philip, Hmmm, well I think you're racing the thing so protect it and now do a stage 1 tune, particularly as you'll be stripping the crank. Get those conrods surface polished (easy to DIY) to improve tensile strength. As your stripping it down, fit some new main bearing shells and if you've got to...

Hi Ali,

I empathise. I've never seriously listened to a EL84 based amp but realise so many swear by them. You're prompting me to maybe explore a little.......I'm thinking about it

Best wishes,

Greg

Hi Steve and Richard, Yes, one of my favourite bands and also from Bristol. I'm an unofficial Rhubarb Thrasher which is the name of the fan club and still goes strong. Custom was to attend a gig with a bunch of rhubarb stems and then thrash your fellow gigger over the head in time to the music ...

Hi Andrew, Not my drink either in many respects but following the exclusion of a few disruptive members, I returned and found it reasonable albeit I only visit certain threads within my interest. Certainly all is generally superficial in comparison with what is posted here but that isn't necessarily...

And if it does, it can go over into the beginners section. After all that I now comprehensively know what level I stand at in this hobby and I'll remain settled to build recognised and acknowledged circuits coupled with a bit of component tweaking, be they kits or scratch build. It seems my only so...

Hi Lee, Good point. I use the plated copper advertised and like it. Old WAD used to supply the same stuff but costing alot more and I think Hi-Fi Collective still advertises similar stuff. I have also used the naked silver wire and PTFE sheathed it myself. Sorry to mislead. Whatever, the naked stuff...

Yep, this is a cracking company if you are into constructing from relative raw materials. Excellent service with quick order turn around and products in my view are good value for money. I've used their stuff in external connections and for internal chassis wiring. I rate their PTFE covered single s...

Have a think about plinth material. Obviously stone is good but granite is crystaline in structure which is not the best for sinking energy. Slate, particularly North Wales Slate is made of compressed mud layers millions of years old and it has the naturally incurred Constrained Layered Damping elem...

Yes Dave, it'll certainly sort them out and without doubt land Andrew in court regardless of his moral high ground. By the way, here I'm just being the messenger, so please don't shoot me! Andrew I'm sorry you've been burgled. Burglary is such an invasive offence and often the personal invasi...

Hi Simon,

No offense intended. You mentioned the shunt mod on an FAQ elsewhere. Being new here, Xabi might find that a bit of a tease to explore. I just filled in the gap :)

Best wishes,

Greg

Hi Dave, On filling for the stands, sand needs to be oven dried first so you don't introduce damp from the inside. Another idea is to get yourself down to your local lead sheet cutter and offer him £5 into the Tea kitty to sweep up a bit of the swarf from his floor which will be in convenient shot s...
