Well there's also PSUD which is pretty easy to use, I use that for power supplies . But none of this is getting to the bottom of why Phil has loud hum on this unit. It could be something silly like a connection missing or in the wrong place. Last time I had trouble with hum it was in my phono amp. A...

Oh, I don't know really Andrew, I dislike handy categories to be honest - however in the case of cables I'm more of a subjectivist, as the theory seems to be unable to explain a lot of what's happening . If I'm building a valve amp, the basic stuff I can get from the data sheets and work out with a ...

Dave
I see you slipped in a bit of Van Vliet back there thinking I wouldn't notice.
Now you've got me thinking what I can play tonight .
Hmm, Safe as Milk, or Clear Spot, or Doc at the Radar Station... what's it to be ?

I believe it needs very sensitive kit to reveal any sort of distortion differences in cables, and the effects are tiny . It still seems a mysterious issue, same as capacitors - most of which test amazingly well, but the differences are plain to hear if you are familar with your system . This is why ...

I usually raid the box of photoflash caps .
They must be slowly dying off now , though to be honest !

Re: .

what about the higher harmonics that alter the lower frequency's , i know most people cant hear above 15k but lets say i wind a transformer that rolls off at 15k and then i also wind one that rolls off at 70k no matter how good or bad your ears are you will be able to hear it I think this certainly...

Marzio re. VV30

I can't find the full article on the web ( the circuit is however out there ) but his comment confused a couple of the best people in the DHT game, as you can see here :

I would agree with Paul too, but there is one odd ( related ) comment I'm aware of - in his article about the 'Katelelo' 300B amp , Ciro Marzio complains that one of the new manufacturers of premium 300B's had got pin 1 and pin 4 the wrong way round - which he described as 'an elementary mistake' . ...

I knew the prog was on, then forgot and was on the phone to someone during most of it - damn !
I did see the highlights of his duets on 'Later' ,there were some top notch ones . I particularly liked the ones with Willie Nelson and Herbie Hancock, neither of which I'd seen before .
