Yes I know what you mean Clive it's actually hard to differentiate from what people have posted on these threads about these boards which of their tweaks are going to add anything more than half a percent. Without altering anything on the board I am now as the day has progressed hearing Hendrix and ...

Thanks Phil.

Not chosen out of cleverness Clive. A cheap easy swap and evaluation possibility.

As it stands the DAC is pretty good. Certainly has a lot of drive I have my volume control on 1.

the best way i could think of to get new music ive never heard before was to go on fleabay. go into records then albums and it will give millions of lps. it also gives categories down the left hand side. i then went into several categories and picked out the first lp that came up at 99p. bid a quid...

Paul, Another thing...... I'd expected to have had the "spare" 4x1541 DAC cased, finished and ready to send up to you by now. Instead I went off at a tangent, bought another SqueezeBox Receiver, dismantled it, took the I2S direct off the Xilinx processor and feeding that into the DAC. I'l...

Phil, this transformer may work, seller has two. Paul, I could pipe up some more but I'm going to keep this short. Somewhere I have a spare pair of Sowter 8920's. They are a 1:2 input transformer. I'd reverse them and use as a 2:1 step-down. Put a small resistor (maybe 50R-100R) in series with each...

Phil, this transformer may work, seller has two. Personally not convinced a transformer would add value, and certainly would influence like any unnecessary component. If it stepped down it may add benefit of driving the interconnect and we can afford to give up half the voltage, which would net us 4...

Yep, as you say Paul you need a good TX in that part. Its not as demanding as in the case of a MC stage as the signal is 2v RMS. If I was going to try that I would suggest something on a Ni core, one of Daves little ones possibly. Ungapped as there is no current in the primary if you take it betwee...

Now my power amp has common cathode 6em7 stage 2 on input with CGP 10pf CGK 7 pf even if stage gain is only 40 input capacitance is 417pf.

So we have a problem. Enter the opamp or a CF stage.

OK the pdf of the DAC is here It states that the minimum AC load is 1k the minimum DC load is 1k5 and the maximum capacitive load is 25pf. with which information we can plan. Now I don't know what the capacitance of your typical interconnect is, but if we put this DAC on our power amp and hotwire it...

Oddly I don't recall other people enthusing about Peters phono stage, perhaps one or at most two said something after the event, but as far as I recall I am the only person who has persistently praised it. Forgive me if there is another. This implies I may be wrong. But my memory of the audience's f...
