If your DSP/DAC is external (ie, you can feed outputs elsewhere), you're welcome to borrow the afore-mentioned Crown, or the Powersoft amps I'll be bringing. The latter have DSP baked-in, so the Crown is probably preferable.

Re: Owston ( now darios) what are you bringing
I'm torking cobblers again I'm using them today, obviously haven't listened to them for a long while, they do do bass, the 'issue' (if it is an issue) was / is, a bass resonance which can get irritating, depending what's being played. Memory eh? It can't be trusted! :D Bring them along, Mike. I'll ...

Hi Steve,
I've got a +1 interested in coming along on Saturday if there's any spaces left.

Re: Owston ( now darios) what are you bringing
Ray, I'm happy to lend my 4" Fostex 2-way monitors. They've appeared there previously, and did a pretty reasonable job. Is a 4ohm load okay?

Re: Speaker cabinets
IIRC, the port inside is extendable. I aimed for a 40Hz tuning, which gives a gentler knee and a bit more power handling down low. Some other uses that I think might be fun: - Super-compact 3-way. Put a waveguided tweeter in the big hole, SB65 for midrange in the smaller chamber. - Conventional 6.5&...

Re: Speaker cabinets
Ah, yes. I remember these. They were originally used with Fostex FE126E drivers covering >500Hz, and Tang Band W6-1139 mini-subwoofers below. Plenty of grunt down to about 40Hz. The Fostex + mini-sub idea never worked particularly well for the variety of music that I enjoy, with the FE126 becoming q...

Re: Owston ( now darios) what are you bringing
I'll be bringing some mystery 3-way tri-amped speakers, which are currently under construction. Happy for them to be used by anyone wanting to demo a source. There's Dante, AES3 (digital) or analogue XLR inputs available. Steve, you can borrow the woofer section if you like. I'm aiming at a 3-400Hz ...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Careful pushing them that far - IIRC, that's Xlim, where damage is likely to occur. The last time I hit Xlim on a Beyma driver, the cone folded. Granted, it was a >500W sine sweep, starting at 15Hz, into a 40Hz ported box. Even so, that's quite a way off spec. It's possible that the rest of the T/S ...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Looks like things are progressing well in my absence. If you're looking at the maximum impedance value, I'd say don't worry about it. The simulators assume a perfect resonance, and throwing a bit of damping in there will write that off immediately. I use impedance to check the LF resonance is in the...

Re: T/S parameters valid for normal listening levels.
I always measure and voice the speakers in room, at normal listening levels, as I found measuring at low levels gives a slightly different FR sweep. I have always assumed it was the contribution of the room, that was the nonlinear variable. I found different: I used a directional and sensitive micr...

Re: Quite possibly my last speakers
It may be that a deeper composite structure is more rigid at 50 or 100Hz, but if it absorbs and re-radiates sound at 2kHz, it could colour ( or more likely de-colour) the sound in the low treble. While true, the mechanical energy at 2kHz is much smaller than at 100Hz. ie, panels are far less likely...

More solid-state amps for sale
Hi all, I've been clearing out the garage a bit, and have realised I have way more amplifiers than I actually need. Here are the ones I'd like to move along: Behringer iNukes: - 2x NU6000DSP - £300 - 1x NU6000 - £250 - 1x NU4-6000 - £300 - 1x Cloud VTX1200 - £150 - 1x Cloud CV1000. Rough condition, ...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
A final point on the Owston front, if I may: You're unlikely to hear these speakers at their best there. When I took the 18" subs to Owston last time, I got the subs + speakers measuring flat with the mic near-ish the cones. Mostly just checking the integration betwee the two. When I pulled the...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
Had another day at Colin's last weekend, and we set about tweaking these speakers further, to see what could be done about the notch in the response at 100Hz. After trying a few measurement positioned, we realised that the problem was in the vertical plane: moving the mic a few feet upwards filled i...
