Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.

It's also worth noting that the typical UK house has brick walls, which means we can get quite a lot of room gain. My current speakers, for example, are -3dB at 50Hz according to the simulations. In practice, my (very helpful) room results in a response that gets to +15dB (over nominal level) at 40H...

Re: Owston meet, Doncaster, 22&23 Oct 22

Chris, can you remind me of the model number of your headphones that we tried. Shure SRH1540. I used the 840s until they broke, and was happy to find the 1540s at a good price. I also have some 1440s somewhere, but they're open-backed so not much use for live sound. For anyone that I did speaker me...

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options

Mark,

PM me and I'll upload your REW file to my cloud storage for you to download.

There's potential with this monitor for sure, and I think an updated crossover will help it to shine.

Re: Owston 2022 - What're you bringing?

Just a thought - I have a reasonably nice headphone setup:
Shure SRH1540s driven by a Motu M4. I can leave a laptop connected up, so just bring your music on a USB stick.

Anyone fancy it?

Hi Steve,

My +1 isn't well enough to make it, so it'll be just me. Happy to pay for the +1 as well since it's short notice.

Re: Another speaker thread

Just a quick note that you really shouldn't be getting feedback, and that might be throwing all of your measurements out. I can't remember which USB audio interface you're using, but anything like "monitor" or "direct monitor" should be off. That switch feeds the inputs straight ...

Re: Owston 2022 - What're you bringing?

You're welcome to borrow additional power. I'll be bringing a couple of multi-kilowatt amps.

I'll also be bringing a couple of very capable subwoofers. If you'd rather save the Supravox drivers from high power inputs, we can run my subs for the really low stuff.

Re: Another speaker thread

Thoughts: - Good start overall. <20Hz LF extension is always nice to have. - The raised 3.5kHz-8kHz region is probably responsible for the extra detail. Suspect the novelty will wear off on that. - Odd that you seem to have lost some level >12kHz when everything's combined. I'll have a bit of a pond...

Re: Laptops with SSD

Good move. Crucial has some software (Acronis?) which can be used to clone drives. Follow the steps and you'll be fine.

Re: Vitruix

Scott, The Dutch & Dutch 8C has an 8" midrange unit which is a passive cardioid. They use vents towards the rear of the cabinet, which are combined with internal absorption to get a reasonable impression of a cardioid polar pattern in a range where rear-wall reflections are problematic. IMO...

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options

Yes. Which means the harmonics will disappear. The cone won't produce harmonics on its own - it needs to be excited at the right frequency by the voice coil. If the voice coil can't pass current at the relevant frequency, there'll be no output, regardless of how the voice coil current is being excit...

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options

This to me seems to be putting the cart at least three steps in front of the horse, and what I don't understand is what of any effect it will have on the generation of the harmonic by the actual resonance of the cone itself. But I guess if we are saying this is at the point where the cone behaves l...

Oh, I thought that was the tendency of HiFi manufacturers to use dome tweeters.

Owston 2022 - What're you bringing?

Per the title :) I'll start: - 2.5-way speakers that made an appearance last year, but with updated tweeters & crossovers. - Crown MA5002VZ amp, which I'm happy to lend out for if anyone needs more power - MOTU M4 USB audio interface/DAC - Laptop as source - Maybe a surprise If anyone wants acou...
