Anyhow, the iPad and the iPhone have both been reset to factory settings and removed from my Apple ID.
The pair of them are mothballed forever. I just have my two Macs now.

My iPhone XS was great, until it wasn't.Mike H wrote: Sat May 17, 2025 7:29 pm @ Steve, wow, that's extraordinary.![]()
Currently using iPhone 11 Pro, it's been OK.

However, the iPhone XS does seem to have been particularly badly affected by Ghost Touch; later models not so much, so you should be OK Mike.

Re: Nothing In Particular
Cheers Ed,
Well I got my mobile banking app set up this afternoon and the thing did half a million updates to the software, so we are now good to go on the latest OS. Not a bad device at all. :)

My Apple woes continue:
my iPhone XS went beserk yesterday with "ghost touch," which is a known issue with old iPhone XSs. The solution is a new screen, but unless the phone is under three years old, you have to pay F knows what for a screen replacement.
The bloody thing started deleting apps left ...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Talking of coding and stuff. I would advise anyone with an older iPad FFS don’t upgrade to iPadOS 17.7.7!
This so called upgrade breaks everything. App settings are no longer kept, meaning that every time an app is opened it reverts to a factory reset.
This affects my NatWest banking app. I’ve had ...

Using the mask and the fume extraction, I’m in the last chance saloon.
Hopefully this belt and braces approach will work.

The fume extraction now goes through an external wall and exits via a louvred vent outside.

I would be up for it too Steve.
I've only got headphone amps, which I'll bring for folk to listen to, but no system dem this time for obvious reasons.

Cressy wear a gas mask …
Thanks Dan.
My brain was all over the damn’ place yesterday, but I had a slow walk to Toolstation today and came away with a JSP Force8 mask.
These are suitable for paint sprayers so hopefully it’ll work for solder fumes. It’ll be a long time before I dare to test it ...

Good luck with the radiotherapy Ray. My sister had a several sessions for oestrogen receptor positive breast cancer last year. She now takes oestrogen suppressors and her checks came back clear last month. She has a long way until the five year hurdle, but remains optimistic.

After another attack of metal fume fever. I’ve decided that enough is enough.
At the moment I’m having bed rest and keeping myself hydrated. This is the third time this has happened and continuing with soldering, despite the fume extraction is just not worth the risk. I seem to have developed an ...

Re: EL84/6P14P Headphone Amp
OK, so I came to the conclusion that the EL84s were being thrashed mercilessly by too high HT voltage.
New production valves can't be abused like the old ones, so they say. This HPA sounds too good to be replacing valves every 5 minutes, so something had to be done to get the HT down and reduce the ...
