Re: You Have a Right to Know
Yep and I still don't understand that. In some ways it would be good to bottom it out but as that implies building and testing and I've already elected to go with the revised output stage, which has been proven, I think I'll leave it as an academic exercise. The revised output stage came from John ...

Re: You Have a Right to Know
I dont understand why 4 isolated DC heater supplies can't be used with a shared cathode CCS? Hi Nick, this is the explanation that I referred to in my earlier post; In a DHT the heater is the cathode so they are at the same potential. In a cathode biased DHT the cathode resistor lifts the heater /c...

Re: You Have a Right to Know
I have used small PCBs for the current sink/output caps, one per 300B. http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag49/2a3user/300B%20OTL%20Build%20-%20DC%20Version/DSCF0918_zpshvzpf1jw.jpg The PCBs solder directly to the pins of the UX4 sockets and clamp the sockets to the chassis. Output caps are Silmics...

I don't fully grasp it Nick but I have some words that purport to explain it somewhere, I'll dig them out and post them.Nick wrote:I dont understand why 4 isolated DC heater supplies can't be used with a shared cathode CCS?

Re: You Have a Right to Know
On planning the build and following Wolfgang's experiences I decided to build a three-box amp, two mono channels and a separate chassis for the power transformers. I ordered up three nice chassis from China and set to. Here's the first amplifier chassis under construction, to the right is the B+ sup...

You Have a Right to Know
I suspect the sentiments of Mark's 'What's he building in there' thread; http://www.audio-talk.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6248 fit pretty well with the looks I get from my neighbours when I'm down in my garage so I thought I should come clean... Some of you may recall that I'm a fan of Bru...

Remember this thread!
Well, I have confess that I'm in need of getting back on the wagon! I've put on about a stone of the three I shed.

That's a very honest appraisal Steve.
You might find Roon, which I've just posted some links to in a new thread, of interest.

New Music Service With a Difference?
I've been checking out this new music service, which looks very interesting, if not the cheapest thing on the planet;

The 'Brompton guy' at work tells me this is the place to get any and every Brompton spare;

Only about ten miles up the road from me too.
He also says you did well.

Re: Any Brompton fans?
Looks like a good find Paul; it'll scrub up nicely and Bromptoms are built to last. A chap I work with is a big fan, though I didn't get on with the one he loaned me for a weekend as my heels kept hitting the blocks that stick out either side of the rear suspension rubber - that's me though. I'll as...

Re: DHT Heater using VCCS - PCB or Kit (Possible Group buy)
Thanks Andrew.
There has been some small level of interest in the DC project over on the Transcendent site. What's the availability situation with the boards as it would be good to tell people in case their interest develops.
Cheers

They did indeed! They're 3R9 10W reuse jobbies though so they'll be fine for this purpose.IslandPink wrote:Did those resistors get a bit hot ?
Winters on the way so the amp will just in time for some nice cosy dark nights.
