Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

I’d be loathe to use WD40 in this manner. Aside from it being a water dispersant, it’s also a penetrant and degreaser which I’d imagine is not good for seals either. It also dries to a film which has the opposite effect of a lubricant. Ali, agreed, WD40 does leave a residual film - a good reason to...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

There was a time when filling the tank to the brim was a sensible thing to do. But that was before the world's collective embrace of both lunacy and ethanol. Ethanol is determinably hygroscopic and the greater the concentration of the stuff in petrol, the greater the risk of tank corrosion and the d...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

The Norman Nippy I can understand, but are you serious about that dreadful BSA? Yup. Sunbeam S8, in shiny black please. Apart from being overpriced, never successful, a complete flop, not fast or even any good in the 1st place... I can't see any negatives about them really. That and the fact the re...

Flippin' bonkers. It was awful, but now so valuable. I could buy a Norman Nippy and Sunbeam S8 now with the proceeds of selling it now and be much happier!

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Weren't the bullet holes stickers also Esso? Nooooo. This ain't pedantry - it's a sorry but mercifully small section of my life. To help get myself through university, long before self-service became the norm, I worked the graveyard shift at a Regent's Park Texaco station and well remember the ill-...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

They were really nice analog faced digital watches with real leather straps. After a few years I gave mine up to my dad because his digital digital free with 5litres of engine oil watch conked out. I half remember those, Doc. Also remember when you could get a Free Astrid Proll with 5 gals of Shell...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

My first motorcycle was a Matchless G80s, 1958 from memory, with the AMC gearbox and Girling rear shocks. I purchased it from a fellow apprentice at Marconi and it cost me £10, which was more than a weeks wage at the time. Being naïve at the time (still a teenager) I got a second-hand high compress...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Where stainless is available in the right strength grade I'd prefer to use them. So do I. And when it comes to old bikes, I find bead blasting of stainless components makes them look surprisingly like nickel bits. At the beginning of March, I ordered a handful of M8 X 1,0 stainless nuts. Order ackn...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

I've decided to part with my Tri-BSA scrambler. :( It's lain unloved in the garage for 6 years and I have no intention of racing again, so why not ? I did consider making it road legal, but as I have the BMW for road use it would be a lot of effort for probably little use. And, being realistic, I h...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

It's a bit late now, but the similar system and more effective Time-Sert would have been a better means of repair. I have found it provides improved performance over Heli-Coil inserts.

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Glad to be of service, feel free to ask anymore questions, if I don't know the answer I can always make something up 👨‍🏫 Be careful. I was still at school when the early atomic tests were being conducted in Australia and the Pacific. During a lunch in the dining hall, the master in charge of my tab...
