Re: lathes

The retired Engineer that showed me the basics of milling demonstrated how the floor isn't really right for the machine. On the digital X Y display the X value can drift by 0.005mm depending on where the users stand . Erks. I've got 3 Boxford lathes I'm learning the basics on too. DTB I have an exc...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Every couple of years or so, I take a bike to Cantabria with my riding centred around Santander. The city council has a most enlightened policy of smartening up the place and has commissioned a number of steel sculptures of this sort to be found in unexpected places, many of them flame-cut from thic...

Is seat height important on an outfit?

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Baggo, do I spy a Mikuni carb on the VH ?  Yes Philip, it's a VM32 round slide Mikuni. I avoid anything Amal if I can. The head has been ported and flowed and sports a Goldie inlet valve and exhaust. Plus 80 Omega piston and lots of other examples of what used to be known as "demo...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

If I wish to travel fast, I can take this For some reason beyond the extent of my knowledge of such things, I no longer seem able to add attachments. The picture was meant to be of my rather special 1957 VH Ariel at speed through the corner at Creg ny Baar. I'll post that when I work out how to. :?...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

I've just had a memory jog....sometime back, somebody(may have been Baggy) posted a link to a film about a frantic dash to catch a ferry in Denmark. The bike in question was a Nimbus..... I'm sure if my memory still worked I'd be formidable, or dangerous, or both It wasn't me 'cos I'm unable to att...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Well spotted, Steve. A Type C Nimbus from 1949. I think there are about 10 Nimbae in the country. Actually, the forks don't give much away re the date because Fisker and Neilsen who manufactured the machine were the first in production with telescopic forks, before BMW who incorrectly claim to be th...

As a contrast to all these plastic rockets, I thought I would present one of the residents of my modest stable. However, I am unable to fathom how the photo attachment system works. Perhaps a kind soul would instruct me. :?

Never heard of Oliver tractors, but looking on the internet they seem to have been painted green in the main. This picture is of an orange tractor with cab, looks more like a hot-rod. http://insulatedoverall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/CIMG5608.jpg I've looked up Oliver too and you're righ...

Re: Newbie

Cheered up by Mrs Trousers who thought the orange tractors were Alice Chalmers! Nice one. Out of interest I put "orange tractor" into Google images and that came up with many different types, including Fordson and Kubota. I'm familiar with Kubota because I was parts manager w...

Greetings. For fifteen years I have inhabited a parallel universe but following the departure of Peter Comeau, that forum slowly lost its original vitality and interest, leaving me to wonder what life might be like here. Don't spend a lot of time in the cybersphere but happy to talk about early keyb...
