Well that's the first time I've seen the Windows OS product range and the Microsoft Windows EULA described like that :D Don't get me started on the Microsoft Windows server convoluted licensing crap. When I was IT coordinator at my previous school we had to include the Key Stage One Macs in our seat...

Linux can be a bit geeky but it is well worth persevering with. Once you get it working it just keeps going with very little need to even shut down the machine. I have to come back to that a bit. Having set up multiple boots on a mac thats not that much fun either, and Darren has tried to use a USB...

Here is Ubuntu running on my MacBook pro. It is a nice OS and very secure. As Nick says there is no need for antivirus software. The system gets out of the way and allows the operator to simply get on with what they want to do. http://homepage.mac.com/scress1958/.Pictures/screen.jpg One small proble...

Well I've gotten started on the OTL. I've decided to take a modular approach to the build. This means that each bit can be built and tested before putting it into the finished circuit. I don't want any spectacular stuff when I fire it up. http://homepage.mac.com/scress1958/.Pictures/OTL6.jpg The fir...

I would have tought there wound be an option to make the ubuntu install format the disk partition and start from scratch. If you can get the CD to boot up to it's desktop then it does give the option to partition the hard drive during the installation process. You can do all the usual stuff like pi...

Hi Paul You may think the machine has hung but it might not have. You get the Ubuntu logo then are asked to choose install or boot plus a list of other stuff. Just hit enter which means you have chosento boot. You should get a bit of text going past then a black screen. The black screen lasts for se...

Hi Paul I would suggest getting a Mac but this would involve buying new hardware With your existing hardware Ubuntu Linux is one of the best Linux distributions for the home/smal business user. You get OpenOffice free with the installation, which should take care of all your office needs including a...

Thats a mighty big TX you have there steve for the bias supply. What current are you expecting to provide? Exactly Nick. It was the only one I could find in my box with the right output voltage and cheapskate that I am I thought I might as well make use of it. It is a bit big but it'll do for...

OK After a bit of thinking in engineering rather than visual terms I came up with this alternative layout. Not quite as visually appealing but it places the input valve (12AX7) as far away from the power supply as possible http://homepage.mac.com/scress1958/.Pictures/OTL3.jpg Andrew, the heat put ou...
