Re: Nothing In Particular

Heard an amusing story, Work colleague had no heating, waited 2 days for plumber. “Nothing wrong with your boiler mate - it’s the meter” was the diagnosis. That was changed in 2 hrs, from making the call. It turns out that “smart” gas meters are fitted with a battery, that has a life of 10 years at ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Just had the weirdest day. I kept some bits back from my old car which was written off, when it went for salvage. Been selling them off. Today someone turned up to collect some bits, in my old car Ffs. He’s a dealer who bought the car from the salvage company, he said it required half a days worth o...

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

It makes me feel warmer if I think it’s 273 degrees outside. From my time with GM in London, Ontario, my first day was a trial by fire, got a skyliner as a hire car, horrible American thing, was confused why there was a yard brush in the boot, until next morning the 2ft of snow on the car - answered...

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

By chance listened to a 2cellosbalbum yesterday….. quite interesting how their rendition of “thunderstruck”, seemed more appropriate for cello, than Angus Young on Guitar. However when it got to “ whole lotta of loving” it didn’t work at all. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2Cellos

Re: Nothing In Particular

Our house insurance has gone up by 25%…. I dread to think about my car insurance, after a claim. I have dropped 6 insurance bands as dropped 40bhp with the new car, so hoping it isn’t that bad, it was ridiculously low before, my claim was over 20 years worth of premiums, at last year’s price, so I f...

Not seasonal - as haven’t seen the sun for weeks. Probably my favourite BC album.

Re: Do Car Main dealers rip people off ?

The big irony in this is that any mechanic worth his salt, sets up on his own after a few years working for the main dealers. Around us the independent specialists are better than the main dealers. The VAG one I use, has access to VAG uk for parts too. The main dealer quoted me £1400 + vat to have a...

Technical info for horn speaker choice based on room size

Looking into some horns for someone, came across a useful website. https://audiohorn.net/what-horn-should-i-use/

Food for thought when you consider most of us don’t live in concert halls, or cinemas.

Re: Do Car Main dealers rip people off ?

Public liability and material cover are two different things…. Most sports clubs have the former but not the later. The company I work for doesn’t cover the buildings or contents, as over a decade or two the insurance costs out weigh the rebuild costs.

Re: Do Car Main dealers rip people off ?

They obviously don’t have insurance to cover the 100’s of damaged cars they had in the compound. Like most big companies they probably cover the risk from their corporate coffers, and haven’t the millions required. Other option is they could declare themselves bankrupt to avoid the liability ……. Not...

We can save 15% on aviation fuel by just flying slower……. Commercial do it, the door to door time could be the same if we just got rid of the money fleecing airport experience, and reduced the time waiting around in an airport.

Re: Nothing In Particular

It’s fun for the first hour……. A 24” Stihl gets tiring after using it for a bit. I didn’t take my Kevlar chaps. So was a less protected than usual, but was all floor work, so always cutting into the ground, so low risk. Had my silky saw for the bits, where the bar wasn’t long enough.
