Yesterday I got hear Nick's DAC in its latest form. Sounding very good indeed IMHO - very detailed without being analytical and lots of "texture" to individual sounds. However, everything got put into perspective when we put some vinyl (Abraxus) on the SP10. Different bloody league entirel...

Hi Guys Now this is quite troubling as the Mets sound excellent and have had a lot of work put into them. But now they sound "hi-fi" The baffles are so much more musical than the Mets it is unreal. The missus, who's feet you can see in the picture was gobsmacked that a pair of cardboard b...

Oh yes, NP makes it clear the using matched pairs for the B1 is essential so I was intending doing that. Well, I should say, I intend to find out how to do it (I'm a novice, you dig?) and then do that. I had to buy 25 so hopefully there should be a least a few good sets.

B1 FETS

I intend making Pass' new B1 buffer/volume control. I'm waiting for NP to make the PCB available but in the meantime I've purchased a bunch of Toshiba 2SK17O BL FETs (currently unmatched). I've got plenty that are surplus to requirements which I am happy to sell at cost if anyone is interested.

I've been a huge fan of JL since his Doll By Doll days. I think it was the Guardian that described him as a "national treasure". He is an undiscovered star.

I love Free, got all their albums, but I think I'd call their music blues rock rather than blues which is what I was thinking about when I wrote that.

Well we went to the Boardwalk last night to see Slim and his band. They were totally wonderful. If you ever get a chance to catch them do yourself a favour and go. What a great night :D And there was a bonus; before the band came on they were playing a really terrific blues album called Gallows Pole...

I think that is what Lampizator refers to as the maxi version of that DAC kit and he seems to rate it (for whatever that is worth).

Re the optical cable, the "received wisdom" is that as a digital medium it is inferior to a 75 ohm cable with bnc connectors.

For future reference guys, on 1/12/08 the threshold for Low Value Consignment Relief is due to go up from €25 to €150. Below this limit you don't pay duty or VAT on a personal import. (This is why Tesco, Asda and others despatch CDs/DVDs etc to you from the Channel Islands.) So come December if the ...

Well I went to the club last and its a great little place - a village hall, holds 120 apparently and it was full of friendly people. Saw GuyTortura (or something like that) and his band. Very enjoyable, especially the second set which was like a helping of Robben Ford with a dollop of Ry Cooder and ...
