Re: You Have a Right to Know
Back from my business trip t'other side - I got dangerously close to Yorkshire but extricated myself safely - so tomorrow I'll aim to the get the second amp up and running. ...cheered up my otherwise very dull Sunday. Very glad to have cheered you up Andrew. Credit where credit is due though, althou...

Re: You Have a Right to Know
Result! I've had to tear myself away from listening to the first amp hooked up to one of my lowthers - the sound is amazingly good and certainly the best I've heard through my system. Going to DC filaments on the 300Bs in the revised output stage seems to have lifted a veil from the music, noticeabl...

Re: You Have a Right to Know
Last weekend I finished putting together the second amplifier and this morning I've completed the power supply chassis. The power supply chassis takes care of the AC side of things, just holding the toroids and distributing the various AC supplies to the amps. http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag4...

Re: MJ Statistical Regulator PCBs
I have a new digital source to build that will need 12mA @ 240V, which is why I've expressed interest, however, I know a key part of it won't be available for at least a couple of months so will be unable to evaluate the results. I'll have to leave the build/test to others. Sorry.

Re: You Have a Right to Know
I've been 'talking' with Wolfgang off-forum and pointed him at this thread, hence some of the earlier input I attributed to him. He has asked me to pass on that he appreciates the comments from the obviously knowledgeable participants here, but particularly to publically emphasise his appreciation t...

Re: You Have a Right to Know
On the point of power, I think these speakers from Collin which I use are about 95db so my listening experience unlike yours would benefit from more than 1 watt. Though for family environment in a room directly above the living room of flat dwellers below with old victorian ceilings no sound proofi...

Re: You Have a Right to Know
Yes, and you will know that I wasn't aiming any criticism at you when I said that I WOULDN'T INVEST IN 8 300B'S. It reminds me of when in the pressure cooker of a holliday cottage a few months ago my 21 year old daughter burst into floods of tiers and had one of her red headed moments (blonde's hav...

Re: You Have a Right to Know
Ok, I was never suggesting one DC regulator, but one per valve, and then you could share the cathode, though one CCS per valve will keep things nice and even. BTW, Andrew regulators dont move up and down in use, certainly not 100mv, they intentionally take their time to get to voltage, but are rock...

We moved around 12years ago; cost us the best part of a grand to move about a mile! Excellent professional service though.

Re: You Have a Right to Know
Wolfgang has a better understanding than I of all things electronic so to continue the discussion I'll share his words that describe his understanding of why DC filament heating is an issue with a single current sink; One regulator for 4 tubes will always set only the average of the four which is no...

Re: You Have a Right to Know
Yep and I still don't understand that. In some ways it would be good to bottom it out but as that implies building and testing and I've already elected to go with the revised output stage, which has been proven, I think I'll leave it as an academic exercise. The revised output stage came from John ...
