Re: Oscilloscope Advice

Hi Ray
There is a section on choosing an oscilloscope in the latest version of MJ Building Valve Amplifiers which I found quite helpful. It was published in 2013 I think, so doesn’t include recent models obviously. But it does discuss features and why you might want them.

Re: picoreplayer

Forgive the stupid question, but I can't find the answer online.
When I browse LMS by album, the results include stuff that has been played via spotify. How can I filter spotify results out? I only want to see stuff that is in my library of flac files.

Re: picoreplayer

The Sonos system is still using the library on the NAS - although actually the Sonos is pretty much 100% used for Spotify these days. The family have no interest in LMS or RPi - Sonos ‘just works’. I’m still using the very first Sonos component I ever bought. If/when the NAS dies I may not replace i...

Re: picoreplayer

I too run my LMS on a Synology NAS. What exactly happened for it to end up broke? I'd like not to repeat the same here if possible. Seem to remember you did/got some kind of update? Thanks. I can’t remember exactly but it started with a Perl update which broke LMS. Then you can’t uninstall Perl to ...

Re: picoreplayer

As mentioned in another thread, Synology NAS support for LMS (Logitech Media Server) is effectively broken. I decided to buy another RPi and use picoreplayer to create a dedicated LMServer. I also decided to go with a USB SSD connected directly to the RPi, rather than accessing the files on the NAS....

Re: Nothing In Particular

I use Synology and have been happy with it until yesterday. They rolled out an update to Perl which broke LMS, and there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to recover from it. I will probably move to a Raspberry Pi for LMS, so not the end of the world.

Re: Driving Grid Positive into A2

I was thinking about the A2 case, but it may be that I don’t fully understand how the grid load appears to the driver. I seem to remember estimating ages ago that when a 211 enters A2 it changes from an easy/high impedance load to something like 2Kohms. Or rather for part of the waveform it is high,...

Re: Driving Grid Positive into A2

Paul, I hope you don’t mind me asking this here, I think it is relevant. I think it’s relatively easy to get the source resistance from the follower so low that a grid stopper on the output valve becomes significant. So the next question in my mind is ‘what steps can we take to reduce (or eliminate)...

Re: Driving Grid Positive into A2

It’s worth trying a mosfet source follower as an alternative to the cathode follower. I think I actually prefer it subjectively.

Maybe set the whole arm up in the mill and machine a bit of weight off the brass carrier in situ?

Re: D3a datasheet confusion

Agree it doesn’t make much sense to me as a way to specify the op point, but that cathode R with that grid volts would work, if the Vb notation means absolute volts rather than relative to cathode? So the grid is at 10v and the cathode is around 11.5?
