Re: Valve amplifier service
It has developed into way more than a simple service. Im thankful for all the advice so far and hopefully it will help others track down a similar fault in the future.

Re: Valve amplifier service
Looking to replace the AN capacitors for a reasonable price. Looking up on Google is a minefield. No one agrees and it appears the amp design matters alot. I like the look of the Arizona Blue pio. Mylar content which some suggest will ladt longer. Would this be a good (albeit much cheaper) alternati...

Re: Valve amplifier service
Thank you so much with all the help so far. I tried Simons advice and took out the PS audio Trio p-200 preamp and replaced it with a NVA passive preamp to test any additional ground issues going on. I was surprised that the noticeable hum changed into a much quieter buzz, if that makes sense. The no...
Op amps
Am i right in thinking that upgrading the op amps in my cd player will make no difference if I use a coaxial output to a dac from the cd player

Re: Valve amplifier service
Here is an update based on the above advice and my skill level, or lack of it. I have replaced all the valves both the small preamp and large power valves. This made no difference to the hum. To clarify the hum. When I switch on the amp it is very quiet. After about 15 seconds the hum gradually gets...

Valve amplifier service
Hi guys. I have a world audio design 5881 valve amplifier that has developed a noticeable hum coming out of both speakers. Not noticeable when music is playing but very noticeable with no music or between tracks. I have no technical experience myself so I am looking for someone or a company to servi...

Re: How can I tell if valves need replacing
Well after some hum getting louder over previous months, I replaced all the kt88 tubes. I did this because I read that old tubes can let transformer noise through. After inserting the new tubes, the amp is silent again. It was only after buying the new tubes that I noticed the silver tops on the old...

Re: Buffalo 3SE DAC
That is a beautiful dac. The description points to network only. Isn't there a coax, optical or USB input.

Re: How can I tell if valves need replacing
Thank you very much for the replies my amp id a WAD kit88 running in pentode mode I believe. The testing skill is way above what I am capable of but the visual clues are very helpful. The tubes look okay and after reinserted them the problem seems to be resolved. Other than upgrading the tubes, any ...

How can I tell if valves need replacing
Hi guys. I need a little help please. I have a set of 4 Electro Harmonix KT88 valves. I noticed today a slight drop out on a song and slight bluring. Sounds almost like a small jump on vinyl. Could be my bluetooth receiver but the tubes are also getting on. Probably had 300hrs tops through them but ...

Wanted valve integrated amp around £500
my Brother has heard my WAD KT88 and has fallen for the sound. He has a budget of around £500 and is looking to get a good second hand unit. Looking at the World audio designs stuff as it seems good value for money second had. Not limited to the KT88 and would consider others. The WAD 6550 also look...

Re: Help with Bowers and Wilkins CDM7 speakers
Thank you all. I was able to find some B&W drivers from ebay that were the same dimensions that are from the dm 601 series. Replaced the originals with 2 kevlar units. Sound is good enough to my ears. I cant tell a difference from the other original speaker. When testing the damaged drivers, the...

Re: Help with Bowers and Wilkins CDM7 speakers
Tested both the top keeler driver and the bass driver. Nothing on a multimeter. Getting the amps tested tomorrow. Does anyone know if Bowers and Wilkins had individual numbers for each driver. I cant seem to find the exact match but some look close with the first 2letters and digits matching but las...
