D'oh! I'd got the incredibly complex passive crossover in mind and had forgotten the Pass.MistyBlue wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 11:26 pmThis one : https://diyaudiostore.com/products/diy- ... -crossoverHave you got a link to that?

Re: Valve Headphone Amp
Yes it might make it better, but it might also become worse, or little different. Really, the vibration is quite severe.
An aluminium lid, mdf, or even some perspex that Ant offered me some months ago would do it.

Re: Valve Headphone Amp
The vibration imparted in to the lid is quite something, too much for some damping pads I suspect. Really, it's like it's trying to take off! Applying damping beneath the tx I suspect might have limited benefit anyway as I think the fixings may well transfer the vibration. Resting the tx on corrugat...

Re: Mofo
Are there more sensible options for someone of, er, more limited skills? Some of the digital scopes look appealing from a size perspective, very small in comparison. But are they any more foolproof?

Re: Mofo
But possibly a little beyond you. What was it that gave it away? :-D It's a Tek TAS 485, 4 channel. Nick kindly walked me through it a while back but of course a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I have 2 probes - CP3101R which claim to be 100MHz x10 300V CAT II. Why 5 BNC leads? I ordered 3 f...

Re: Valve Headphone Amp
Interesting suggestion. Why would this be different than just using the weather stripping and leaving the transformer bolted to the bottom? Are you suggesting the magnetic field would be smaller as the lid is a fair bit smaller than the rest of the chassis?

Re: Mofo
I reread my how to use a scope book, now with enough knowledge to understand why it didn't help me previously - I'm sure the person that wrote it is very competent but an educator they aren't... Anyway, I managed to get a stable waveform by twiddling the trigger adjust. But all sorts of odd things s...
Re: Speakers
I do it with the coupling cap as it was easier, but essentially the same thing, yes
Re: Speakers
What do you mean? No crossover at all, or actuve crossover? A bit of a mix really. Originally I tried a cheap class D subwoofer module, so built-in active crossover with a 180Hz low pass IIRC. That surprised me, along with direct coupling whatever valve amp I was using at the time to the Fostex 208...
Re: Speakers
It is Paul. I had mine wired like this too. Then I tried without a passive crossover and was surprised at the increase in clarity.

Re: Mofo
This should probably go in a new thread "Teach this dummy how to use a scope. Again." :( MoFo has been a bit poorly for a few weeks, but so have I so I didn't think it wise to go poking around. Symptoms - without warning both channels went very quiet, and rather scratchy. I use it for bass...
