Re: C3g Aikido Phono

So I seem to be in one of my phases of doing very little audio stuff. I thought I'd just update on the latest MC front end though, now it's got a few hours on it.

It's sweet as a nut :-), the best of the 3. There's low level detail I've never heard before, and it really does sound sweet. It's got a ...

Re: New 'Phones

I don't think it'll embarrass me at Owston in September.

You mean you're not going to try something else between now and September? ;-)

If you can use 12V heaters Billington has nos US 12SN7 for £11. Or 7N7 which is the same as 6SN7 with a loctal base, also nos US, for £10. The only problem ...

Re: New 'Phones

If 1 o'clock is your loudest volume Steve it might be worth trying without one of the cathode bypass caps? Might not sound better though.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Hmmm,
I found Apple Music on the Google Play store. I had no idea A.M. was available on Android phones.
That's me sorted for music then. :)
Also managed to pair the phone with the car. A complete PITA but I got there in the end.

Welcome to the dark side Steve . Now you're Android you're ...

Re: Any recommendations?

Just curious Nick, does the forum software record how many times the link's been clicked?

Re: Any recommendations?

That was in response to DQ Phil. I'd already suggested people might not want to click on the link.

As some don't seem to be able to do nuance it's a link to escorts, and not of the Ford variety. I don't think anyone genuinely interested in audio is going to include a link like this. But each to ...

Re: Any recommendations?

I don't recommend anyone clicking the link in the OP's post but I wonder if they're not really that interested in audio.

Re: Quad II

The price escalation of decent nos 5V rectifiers is painful alright. :-(

If you can bear the compromises there are a lot of decent damper diodes available for cheap still. For instance 6AX4 - I bought them for $1 each, last time I looked they were $4 each I think. They're 6.3V rather than 5V, 1.2A ...

That is where youre problem lies. Wtf are you doing discussing youre gm70 amp with cats?

I appreciate you were being humorous but it wasn't much fun. I was trying not to refer by name, no wish to stir things up, but it wasn't a lot of fun. He came with an agenda, beyond the GM70 thread, which ...

Problem solved. The posts in question have invalid unicode in them which causes the forum software to have a fit. Its sometimes the case with old posts from before the database shifted to UTF8. Not deleted, just hiding :-)

Yep, a salutary reminder that not everything on t'internet is always as ...

Okay, this was a good few years ago and it looks like the forum settings have been updated since :thumbright:.

The text of the posts (would have to check back whether they were edited or deleted) would have been deleted some time afterwards - could be months or even years. 12 hours seems a fair ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Agreed. It's always been a place where people's comments stand by their words, and others can make their own decision on the words and the poster.

It's perhaps worth mentioning a certain feline infestation we had some years ago on my GM70 thread that riled a lot of people here. It's not worth ...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

In the end I dropped HiFiCollective a line and they replaced the resistor no problem.

I soldered it in and connected both channels to one +12V SuperReg earlier. I only had a couple of minutes to test and listen but it sounded promising :-). There was the same 1mV AC (IIRC) at the output of both ...
