Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

Mmm, dunno about that. There's a reason Perez et al are desperate for it, and it's not to be poorer. The affect on football as we know it is another matter, but commercially the Super League somehow feels inevitable in some flavour.

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

I take your point entirely Nick.

But people never cease to underwhelm me. Our own national plant team are replacing our hybrids with all electric. They were very proud of the engagement they'd done, except nobody knew anything about it, and the depots don't actually have charging points...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

There's maybe 10 hours on the Boozehound JFET stage, and perhaps 3 hours on the TubeCAD. This is with PHONO II as C3g Aikido is in bits in the very slow process of being boxed up. In comparison to the Lundahl step ups there is a very clear increase in detail, quite surprising actually. The detail ma...

Re: Pye Sunrise Radio

Gulp. I was just having an idle browse for SE OPTs and started with Hammond as a cheap-end baseline. A "non-Hi Fi" 125 series is now £66 at Mouser, and the 1630SEA is near enough £200.

And I thought extra virgin olive oil had got expensive.

Re: Pye Sunrise Radio

Sounds interesting Steve, would you just put them in the back of the front baffle, or think about a box for them? The Wharfedale sounds interesting, I could use a direct coupled 6EM7 spud with it.

Re: Pye Sunrise Radio

Very interesting, thanks Morgan. Yes, now you say I think it's a MM, not M.

I'll have a look for dual concentric, it's not something I've ever played with. Are you think in "open baffle" style?

Re: Pye Sunrise Radio

So what to do with it? My dad's going to have a go at the woodwork as it's up his street. There's no point even trying to recreate the internals I think. I guess originally there would have been a large paper driver and the case would be largely a U frame-type open baffle??? Bass cutoff would have b...

This base appears to be to allow the radio to turn easily. I wonder if this was original?

Pye Sunrise Radio

I picked up an old radio from Steve earlier. It's just the woodwork and needs a bit of TLC. I know nothing about old radios but I think it's a Pye Sunrise Model M from 1931, walnut veneer on plywood, so it's not bad for 93 years old. There's something quite special about the front I think. . 2024051...

Re: Dying Rectifier?

I bought a few 6AX4s from the US some years ago at a dollar a piece. I've used them successfully with a low voltage GM70 amp. Handily they're octals, but the 6.3V heaters are a pain. I could get some 6V transformers (they'd need to be good for the HT) but the cost will be approaching a 5V rectifier ...
