Re: Owston meet 27+28 Nov 21-add your name here

They pipe speakers are called Pluto’s- https://www.linkwitzlab.com/Pluto/intro.htm I know that these are celestial names (Pluto, Orion etc.), but I can't help but notice that PLUTO was a top secret pipeline delivering fuel under the English Channel to the beach heads after D-Day... PLUTO = PipeLine...

Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

Can't see any 100n caps decoupling each chip's Vcc/Vdd - well, there are no chips as such, but decoupling pins 1 & 2 of J1 would be a good plan. Crowbar (diode) between pins 1 & 2 of J1 as well, plus possible tiny power LEDs for both usb & iso sides. No need for decoupling Nick, that'll...

Re: Owston meet 27+28 Nov 21-add your name here

Nick - can you go back and edit in the details into Mike's photo post as and when they become available - it'd be really useful! Pretty please? FWIW, though it'd been great to do a 9+ hour round trip to see what was happening in Owston, seeing the first grandchild for the first time was awesome... (...

Re: Pre-Owston Natter 26th Nov

And when it gets really cold, you can turn it on. Nah, that's when all the output transistors blow up.  I used to have a humongous Perreaux 2150B 400W class A amp in my workshop that used to idle at about 60C. If it wasn't for the desk space and enormous electricity bills, it'd still b...

Re: driving licenses

What amazed me is that the 77 year old vicar with macular degeneration who ran full pelt into the back of my landrover has just had his eyes tested... ...and been passed fit to drive! By his own admission he has trouble handling transitions between light and dark. It can only be a good thing that yo...

Re: Op-amp operating voltages - a question

Never noticed any difference - the manufacturer's data also states that noise/performance is independent of supply voltage assuming that the supply is in range.

I've several detailed texts on op amps and their design - I'll have a look to see what the experts say...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

As you well know, the Boeing issue was a systematic failure - many many processes failed. If there is a positive from that, it's that the issues regarding changing flight control systems are now better understood and processes will be improved. Air travel along with rail, in terms of fatalities/km, ...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Old story about pacemakers, which was rapidly addressed. Basically, when these systems were designed, security was not such a big issue. Either you are being deliberately obtuse and argumentative or simply don't understand safety critical and intrinsically safe systems. The amount of testing and ver...
