Re: USB interfaces and clocks

Well, in my case I don't have any USB as I am using Squeezeboxes, which have I2S available. However, if you're using a USB to I2S converter then yes, then that is the source of the clock(s) and data for I2S so its from there it is the "weak link" as they are logic level signals, not intend...

Re: USB interfaces and clocks

I am assuming Tony means LVDS as in the "low-voltage differential signaling" interface. So a transmitter/receiver pair with a pair between them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-voltage_differential_signaling Yes, exactly. I used these modules as it was simpler at the time: https://magna...

Re: USB interfaces and clocks

I used to get very focused on I2S jitter and clocks/reclocking and I have tried a couple of different implementations over the years but now I realize that it's less about jitter as such and more about noise and grounding. Introducing more electronics into the chain sometimes just makes matters wors...

Re: Side Projects

I've had some Ebay/Aliexpress "Alps Blue" that I think are probably fake as they're so cheap. However they sound better than Alps Blue to me.

Might be worth a try Mike? They are dirt cheap. If I can dig one out I'll send it over to yo to try.

Re: Yay! New toy

Right, I couldn't leave this alone so I am building yet another DAC main board and trying out a few suggestions and ideas that came up with the existing builds. This time since I needed to get the DAC pcbs made I also stumped up for the stencil too. This made the job of fitting the tiny SMDs much ea...

Re: Road vehicle fires.

Yes, I guess it does make sense to have a separate battery - just _why_ horrible lead-acid? Tesla are only now starting to use Li-Ion.

Re: Road vehicle fires.

That is true, my bad. Could happen to any ICE car.

But my question (off topic!) still stands as to why BEV need a 12v battery in addition to the main drive battery? Cost maybe? I haven't found a reason that sounds plausible online.

Re: Road vehicle fires.

Looks like that's the 12v battery rather than the main 400v one. Poxy lead-acid thing. There _must_ be a better way than using a lead-acid for the electronics.

Re: Owston meet, 21 & 22nd Oct '23

Let's see what next year brings... But 1st I'm waiting for the updated prices for the room, they are planning to add charges for room hire, before I even think about next years Thanks Steve. I would happily pay a bit more to cover any room charge. I would also happily organise an event next year bu...

Just in case anyone was interested, the music I played was this:

I actually played the wrong track, which is why I was concerned it was going on a bit long.

(However, it's all good!)
