Re: General health matters.

Just caught this. I've been on sweeteners for many years now, from the hideous 'Sweetex' my Mum used to have, to what wife and I find palatable - currently the Tesco ones currently for £1.35 for 300 in narrow dispensers (they used to cost double this or more). We've tried most of the others and don'...

Re: yet another boring one trick pony turntable build

How wonderful now that there are decent hand built tonearms for under three hundred quid that can be specified to drop straight into a Lenco arm mount, saving the butchering that goes on and often removal of useful idler retraction parts ;) Have a look for Silver Note tonearms, mainly on Facebook bu...

Re: Mayware formula 4

Memories - The Formula 4 headshell can be slid back and forth on the tube can't it - or am I confusing with the (you've been) Hadcock? The Rega arm effective length is around half an inch longer than an SME/Linn I seem to remember and Mayware/SME mounting plate used to have the arm plumb in the midd...

Re: Clock and watch enthusiasts ?

I think that jewellers often bought fine clocks and watches in and had their own names printed on the dials. You could enquire if the BHI or their watchmaking equivalent for further help.

Re: Cartridge cleaning

What's wrong with AT607 stylus cleaner? Only eleven quid and doesn't seem to leave deposits, the brush is fine enough for all those 'important little places' and this stuff really does get nasty stuff off encrusted diamond styli with no long term ill effects... https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1939188121?ii...

Re: Microscope for cartridge diamond tips

Apologies, I can't remember the exact magnification, but I've had this thing from primary school days and have to hold the stylus under the lenses. It's worked well for me in the past and I used it at work for some years to check for wear, which it used to show clearly. Back in the 70's, cheaper car...

Re: Microscope for cartridge diamond tips

I use a proper simple microscope as my loupe only shows if the tip is dirty or not. Dual used to make a splendid thing, with little turntable mount and illumination, so you could centre up the stylus assembly and then rotate it under the lens. Shame I couldn't take photos, as the best tips I saw bac...

Re: Steve Hillage Band - Live.

None of my Gong-loving pals liked it much, but 'And Not Or' saw me through some memorable and very happy times back in '83 or so. Still love it despite the drum machine ;)

These uncharted lands, Nobody Understands, Castles are made of sand. Peace on this holy ground...... This is the only way, I really know how to say, the feelings that I have for you and the love I wanna share. A love that shelters like an oasis in the sand, from the burning rays of the bright light ...

Re: Forget Cube speaker Drivers .........is this the future?

Spec and measurement wise, the ncore modules do look to be very good still, even if Bruno has taken the concept further. Others here may violently disagree (not too violently I hope ;)) but the latest smps types seem cleaner than ever and not as 'dirty' back into the mains as I once believed them to...

Re: Steve Hillage Band - Live.

Good luck to him. About bloody time he and Miquette properly re-performed the old stuff on a full tour, much of which hasn't really dated in my opinion. System 7 was getting 'samey' in recent albums, so a bloody good idea to tour his extensive 70's and 80's back catalogue more imo. Hope you enjoy th...

Re: Attendees Owston 1/2 June 19

That DSJR, instead of just commenting needs to get himself to one of these events to sample properly. Next year (already booked by Steve) Dave? I made a favourable comment that it's great that DIY is alive and well in the north of England at least (I'm forgetting Phil in essex and those of you in t...

Re: Attendees Owston 1/2 June 19

Thanks so much for posting link to pics. Hope you can find the time to put text with them please.

I remember when I started in all this (early 70's) that 'Up North' was always wonderful for DIY and so on. Seriously glad it's still alive and well.
