Re: TKD pots

I think yours has a khozmo stepped attenuator in it if i remember paul, iirc the 3575s were after it to make the balanced out for the barbarik I think its a 10k shunt version Oh yes that’s right. Sadly after building 801a PSE I doubt I’ll ever go back to balanced amps. But I’ll take that as a posit...

Re: Owston meet 27+28 Nov 21-add your name here

The first ESS speakers I owned were 'bookshelf' ones with the standard 12 inch bass units and grand master Heils. Although ported both drivers were boxed in, neither bi-polar nor dipole apart from the small port ( for the bass unit). Now, as Eni fule no, American booksheles are huge compared to wha...

Re: TKD pots

Can you remember what’s in my preamp Ant?

Right now on the Nightingale 801a I’m from dac to Panasonic pot, which sounds good. I found two no’s Allen Bradley 50k carbon pots, so if I can be bothered with having to watch the balance, I might try those against Panasonic.

Re: 801a amplifier

So whats going to happen to poor Barbarick? who is sat in the dog house, sidelined by the new puppy. Barbaric will undergo a refit to a interstage phase split Sukuma style 801a push pull amp. As the top end is lacking It’ll get the Sowter PP transformers I bought from Dr John. Ive lost the phase spl...

The Plutos? It was so wrong how right they sounded. Id have them happily!

They dont look at all right but their sound far excells over their looks, then, because they sound so good you settle that issue in youre thinking, and actually enjoy the fun look too!

Re: 801a amplifier

That’s what I’m talking about. It’s quite different to anything SE dht that Ive built. The only reason I can think of is, the lack of 2nd harmonic distortion. Its kinda like listening to push pull directly heated triode. Until it gets into youre sole, youre listening for the usual SE dht inacuracy w...

Re: 801a amplifier

Thanks for filling in the details, sounds like something I want too. But I’ve a long way up a steep learning curve, I only know about valves and transformers. I’m having visual heaven at home I love this amp it’s rained these speakers it could tame anything. I just love the view. The excess choke in...

Gordon is it you I thank for 3 motor run caps and 3 el34’s? (One had gas so didn’t take it.) The pipe effort looked wrong and sounded right. If any of my pathetic attempts sounded that good I’d be done. Can’t judge a book by its cover! Still waters run deep, I suspect you’re way out of my depth, tha...

Re: 801a amplifier

Ray and I were togetherat VSAC was it in 2003? I know we all look a lot different, peoples films and stills of me at first eggborough show a much younger looking person without hardly any lines. But I saw this character 18 years on showing really deep analytical sort of conscentration interest in al...

Re: Poundland 45

I have never seen Steve do what I find is needed for regulated supplies, add a small resistor (say 5-10 ohm) feeding a high quality film cap (say 1uf) on the output to isolated the HF from the regulation. Just saying. The chip manufacturers used to show this on their suggested schematics. Possibly ...
