Im warming to the sound. I’ll do the balance mod and put the Mustard caps in.
Still way over sensitive. There is. 1 meg input impedance I’ll have to experiment with a value series resistor to voltage divide it. Might have to be 470k. I can only use the first step of my stepped attenuator preamp ...

Re: KEL84 Totally Triode
They didn't put the balance facility in anyway. But I was thinking of altering the bias resistance and a small pot on top bridged with a lowish value resistor to balance.

Re: KEL84 Totally Triode
The coupling caps 0.22uF polypropylene orange things. Vitamin q’s are over priced. Found Mullard Coupling caps 1uF 160v 4

I expect those to make it smooth and mellow.
Popular in guitar amps, anyway.
Then I recon I’m done.
Up to date schematic. Bypass cap ...

Re: KEL84 Totally Triode
OK, a resounding success.
First en route I had to trace some, what used to be called, parasitic oscillation.. I never found it so believing it was probably related to the complete balls up of the diyer’s soldering of the rediculous amout of rca input options the selector pot and the volume pot. So ...

Re: KEL84 Totally Triode
A voltage amplifier gain of 40 should do with modern sources. The bypass capacitor ; probably space for polypropylene at that value, otherwise electrolytic.
No global feedback.
After I’ve done it I’ll tell you how it sounds on Girl & Guitar.

You have to operate the triode connected pentode at 75v on the anode for direct coupling to the true triode section.

I bought a long arm to use on it the length of the long sme and the spu arm. So I shall set it up with that and put my spu on it. But I’n not yet ready for that level of left hand motor control Anth. The dd doesn’t require any such fine control in my left hand. It is improving though, Im now ...

Re: Technics SL1800 MK 2
On the top floor I have my SE el38 on the pro speakers on vinyl. Nothing beets that level. But when I’ve converted Mo’s amp to triode at with it will be about the same power output as my se el38. The neauty is finding the triode curves for the voltage amp. i think that is the best upgrade for the ...

Re: Nothing In Particular
My Dad used to dig out the moss and throw grass seed where the moss had been. But it wasnt very successful if I recall.
I cant get to my grass for the brambles taking over like Triffids.

Re: Technics SL1800 MK 2
Ignore me you said it cant be adjusted. Fine I’ll play with Matts and so on. A very good sounding turntable inspight of this strange philosophy of not providing height adjustment. What on earth were they thinking of?
