Why would there be less switching noise? Typical DC power supply won't be passing current at zero crossing point anyway.

Re: Slow Mo MoFo

Get one, I had one before the 686, it was very good. How do the two compare? Just more power or are they different sonically? Which speakers are/were you using and was the extra power a consideration? They compare well from memory. The 686 was better to my ears, not just because of more power, but ...

Re: Slow Mo MoFo

That's how it came Nick, so I don't know is the honest answer. :D

Smoother supply perhaps?

Are there any disadvantages?

Re: Slow Mo MoFo

Thanks for the suggestions and your experiences Nick. Re distortion / ”warm smear”; as mentioned, I’ve been suspecting this for a while. Others elsewhere (for example Ben Mah on DIYA) have hinted at it. I will check the source with headphones to make sure in the next few days. As far as the buzz is...

Re: Slow Mo MoFo

Yep, IMHO, the Neurochrome fall into that small group. Not wanting to upset Ant, but I am not so sure I would put the F5 in that, I think I can hear things the F5 is doing to the sound passing through it. But having not heard all F5's that exist, I may be wrong. As do yours to my ears Nick, from wh...

Re: Slow Mo MoFo

I found similar to nick when i got hold of the nelson pass f5 and b1 that i use. I went from a kt77 amp to the f5, and i havent used a valve amp since. I found that the source started to make much more of a difference. The phono stages, decks, arms and carts i was using became a bottleneck. I dont ...
