Re: Magnets and nails...

Maybe first a metal detector so see where to use the magnet?

Quiet common for a 330pf

And forgive my OCD, but the standard notation is either 3R3, which is a 3.3 ohm resistor, and 3k3 which is 3300 ohm. 3R3k is neither one thing or the other,

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

the number and location of spare ready charged tractor units would be a prohibitive cost The Tractor in effect becomes a electric motor, and a battery pack with a cab on the top. I suspect not more than twice the cost of just the batteries if that. And what about non articulated HGVs Other than for...

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

A bit like the VHS / Betamax battle I would have thought a closer analogy (as that was after all just a format battle, there were few other differences) would be gas light versus electric light for home lighting. But time will tell. In a way I think HGV (at least in Europe would be simple to go bat...

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

Not today, not tomorrow or next week, but -------------------- * But that’s only the case if the other solutions don't also advance at the same time. Unless you use fuel cells then H2 has some of the same emission problems as petrol for use in city's. Synthetic fuel solves all the same problems as ...

Re: Ah ! Njoe Tjoeb fault

ps. It may be after a while, with people swapping valves, they found 160mA was marginal. If it was specced for Philips 6922, you can see that ECC88 and 6DJ8 have a 20% higher filament power. IMHO, it won't be the actual current draw of the system thats setting the fuse size, it will be the inrush c...

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

Don’t imagine these will be cheap, but interesting nonetheless. https://robbreport.com/motors/cars/hyperion-xp-1-hydrogen-powered-ev-supercar-2941564/?fbclid=IwAR2krwlUgvF4TCkIcbnd_IWj3kmI6ULgQVAvDEdW2y78QyLUB7LmCe5osvI Nice. I have a feeling that Hydrogen powered road vehicles, particularly HGVs, ...

Re: CCS adjustment question

I would ask the question "what do I want from the stage" and adjust for that. I assume that if the stage is already being sent a perfectly balanced signal, I would adjust for matched AC output from the two phases. Or adjust for lowest distortion which will related to the output being AC ma...

Re: Ah ! Njoe Tjoeb fault

Could have gone wrong, but didn't so that sounds great. May just have been the fuse eventually giving up from the transformer inrush.

Re: The Newton 300B

I think Lynn used the same trick (although sans cap) with the CCS's - that's why the 820R's are there.
That may be more of the case that CCS's tend to look like a wire at very high frequencies.

Re: Ah ! Njoe Tjoeb fault

My guess is that fuse is in line with the toroids primary. Worth trying a replacement, if it blows again, its either the tx or what the tx supplies, so that’s where to go next. My money is its just the fuse.

Re: Ah ! Njoe Tjoeb fault

I'm not sure what the EI transformer to its left delivers I would guess looking at it that the EI is the original transformer for the CD player before the valve stage was added. The mains in seems to split to the EI and the toroid. Does the relay on the board by the toroid switch? I wonder if its j...

Re: The Newton 300B

If you are unsure about hearing a regulator I found that a small (say 22r) resistor after it and a good cap hides it nicely.

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

I accept friends poking fun at my choices, even encourage it at times, but it doesn't need to become a national sport.
International would be better. It would after all be nice to have something we were good at.
