I would agree about needing a horn. Several people in Oz use my 160 horns with a 4" throat to do this, with the horn on the floor as per pic below. There was a Fane 8M group buy I believe. Original driver used was a SABA green cone. http://www.azurahorn.com/gallery/Bryan%20Melbourne.jpg Fane 8M...

There have been a couple of mentions of the REL subwoofers and I am interested in what sets them apart. I bought one of the original ones from Richard Lord when it was a garage operation and it was the most wonderful exiting thing you could imagine - it truly did that invisible deep deep bass that d...

I guess that's the remarkable thing about compression drivers; though designed for high spl pro applications, they perhaps are at their best at low levels. This would suggest using them at lowest cross over possible, but it leads to crazy type thoughts...

My theory at the moment has been that the very high efficiency of the cone driver with front horn means the cone/suspension is hardly moving , which means it's almost 'down in the noise' when playing at normal levels, hence a loss of tone. I think that is a very good possible explanation of why hig...

You can of course also raise the Zo by reducing the OT step down ratio. But again the load line is not going to be ideal for a SET. I recently completed a pair of monobloc transformer coupled pp 807 amps with 50% UL, but no global NFB. I am stunned by how much better this is than the SE 300B amps I ...

I used Lowther PM2As below AH425 / Yamaha JA6681 for quite some time with various cross over points. The Lowthers were mounted on 2.3m 50Hz bass horns, so there wasn't natural time alignment. At the time I was using a digital cross over and you never stop playing with them. Actually I never found sw...

I bought the original Kokomo thrust bearing for my 401 and didn't end up fitting it. The thing I had reservations about (apart from wear), was the possible eccentricity of the bearing point. There is nothing to accurately centralise the ball, as the fit of the spigot is quite loose inside the housin...

hi from Perth WA

Hi, I make horns and amps and stuff and do a bit of recording to tape. I play tenor sax (badly) and sit in the shed a lot. I have a website called azurahorn which funds the audio habit when burglary is slack. best wishes to all, martin
