Re: Nothing In Particular

So what's your view of the running costs and capability of your system Nick ?

I've looked into them and decided to hang fire.. hence the 2nd wood burner.

Re: Nothing In Particular

My brother always had 3 phase in his workshops (garden machinery) and always said it was cheaper to run 3 phase equipment
Looking up electricity costs today that looks doubtfull, but as jack says there are other gains.

Re: Nothing In Particular

That only explains how you process the free wood - are neighbours trees vanishing in the night? :D I only probably generate a week or two’s worth of fire wood from pruning the 20 trees or so we have. Your right is does steve, but it does hint at the fact I'm well used to processing wood for the fir...

Re: Nothing In Particular

I am getting my cousin an green energy consultant to go around my options- I do wonder whether a big PV array in the garden, charging some very big batteries and heating with electric under floor mats would be a more sensible option. I hope you keep us updated on that Steve... My campervan solar pa...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Just think of the scenario if this rare weather situation occurs in 10 years when everyone has heat pumps and electric cars.... I wonder what the issues are with the HV grid - is it lack of maintenance, ensuring trees cannot hazard cables etc, as the pylons and cables are designed to cope with real...

Re: Nothing In Particular

But Jack... if your heat pump is 3 phase does that not make it cheaper to run.. everything I've read about single phase heat pumps say they are more expensive than equiv gas ch..? And.. most uk housing needs much better insulation to retain the heat that most heat pumps supply for when we have our c...

Re: Owston meet 27+28 Nov 21-add your name here

IIRC, we ended up a bit short of sources, so we ran some music from Nick's USB drive through my laptop and USB DAC. Those went through the OTL amp and then the Crown amp, through the Lowther OBs. I thought the Crown amp did quite well - it didn't show itself up as obviously bad, despite being possi...

PS and it doesn't hummmmmmm ;)
As I said you shamed me in to building reasonably quiet amps
Sometimes I need a push..

It the best valve amp I've made thanks to those valves in it.
And it a choke loaded driver..

Re: Owston meet 27+28 Nov 21-add your name here

I'd forgot we had a great evening session, nick dragged his lowther quasars down and give them a go on my mofo and then my little one watt amp. Andrew insisted on a massive attack mezzanine work out, that soon overloaded the p650, but with reduced volume it did very well. One watt is easily overload...

Isn't it funny how linkwitz gets his name on a well known design from the 50s.. although it was ceramic pipe then I suppose..
