Re: Poundland 45

Got a revised audio cct to post: I know Izzy mentioned not fiddling with it before Owston, but I have never been really happy with the bias on the input stage. The LED was used in the first instance, because it was a quick way to provide something that worked because I was in a hurry to experience th...

Re: The Newton 300B

Great stuff Dave. It always surprises me, the positive difference a bit of tweaking in the right direction makes. That’s the great thing about DIY; you can voice the project to your room and speakers. I think you’ve proved that what worked for Reichert doesn’t necessarily work across the board. Such...

Re: Poundland 45

What!
Garish purple glow tube bling, taking attention from those lovely 45s? Next it’ll be blue LEDs lighting up the undercarriage. :D

The Ladybird book, that first piqued my interest in all things electric.

No idea why it popped into my head on a Saturday afternoon in October 2021. Maybe the first step on the road to senility and decrepitude.

Re: Poundland 45

I’ve at last got around to ripping out the temporary lash-up of the DN2540, cascode CCS that feeds the VR tubes that regulate the input stage HT. I built a new one up on a piece of prototyping board, using electrostatic protection protocols to prevent any possible degradation of the pair of MOSFETs....

Re: Poundland 45

Fed up with the loud crack through the speakers every time the shunt VR tubes strike when the valve rectifier has ramped up, I’ve changed the rectification to a pair of solid state SiC 1200V 3A Schottky diodes. Now the VR tubes ignite before there is any amplification happening, meaning that startup...

Owston ‘21: What Are You Bringing?

OK, I’ll start.

It’ll be my diminutive 45 amp and my Fane single driver speakers.
Source will no doubt be my Mac Mini and MF DAC. Our Ant will probably bring a vinyl setup so I won’t be bringing my own turntable.
Looking forward to the meet-up. It’ll be nice. 😊

Re: Nothing In Particular

Nice day out in a nice part of the world Steve. Must be 25 years since I last went to Malton. Good beer I seem to (partially) remember. Aye, it’s two years since we went to the North Yorks coast because of this blasted Covid malarkey. It was great to actually get out somewhere if only for the day. :)

Re: Nothing In Particular

Nice day out today celebrating our ruby wedding anniversary. Elevenses, at the Hidden Monkey tea room in Malton, fish and chips in Filey, then an ice cream cone with a chocolate flake stuck in it, from Lucy’s Beach Shack, Cayton Bay, plus a walk along Cayton beach, watching the surfers, paragliders ...
