Re: Owston 2022 - What're you bringing?
OK, Feeling a little bit guilty for being a miserable bastard, so below is what I will bring. I intend to bring a complete old school early '90s style system, CD based, none of that streaming or computer audio zillion-bit warp-speed upsampling flimflammery. NVA based solid state amplifier, with incr...

Re: Owston meet, Doncaster, 22&23 Oct 22
I’m still undecided whether to bring anything. The SE valve amp with feedback might appear, as might the solid state amp, but an amp’s an amp when all is said and done. There’s not a lot to say about them. Ant might bring a few things though. Personally, I’m more interested in seeing what people are...

Re: Fun with Feedback
Music is my first love and it will be my last. Music of the future and music of the past. To live without my music would be impossible to do. In this world of Johnson, Sunak, Truss, rip off energy companies, climate change and complete utter bastards, my music pulls me through.

Re: Nothing In Particular
The local bowls club I belong to is having a troubled time because of personality issues. The club captain has resigned because the (arsehole) chairman is incompetent, and in supporting the club captain I've ended up with a one match suspension for "bad behaviour". Hopefully it wi...

Re: Fun with Feedback
Anyway, the pair of damper diodes were a tweak too far. The extra heater transformer's electric field was inducing a slight hum into the input stage and also it was causing the bottom plate to utter a loud clang on the initial magnetisation at switch-on, because it was inside the case. The choice wa...

Used to love him on Jackanory when I was a child. He and Kenneth Williams were my favourite storytellers. R.I.P. Bernard.

Re: Fun with Feedback
OTOH
I could listen less, read more, write more and go for more walks and keep the valve amp in the system.

Re: Fun with Feedback
Anyway, back to the solid state amp. The Heretik was a great engineering exercise, but I’ll be keeping it for occasional use due to the power consumption. I listen for at least six hours a day, often more, so the solid state amp is a no-brainer. Just out of interest, what are the relevant costs for...

Re: Fun with Feedback
As I have a centre-tapped HT transformer, I thought I may as well try a couple of cheap, 6CL3, TV damper diodes for rectification. I started off with a solid-state rectifier with one 6CL3 as the slow-start element, running off the same heater supply as the rest of the valves. It worked nicely and ga...
