Re: Colin (Toppsy) Rest In Peace

I'm late to the thread, but Nick contacted me back in November and let me know. It was very sad news.
Colin was a big part of our 'team' . He was enthusiastic and very generous.

Re: what are you doing ?

Would you be happier if I didn't post anything on the forum Andrew ? It seems to be one downer after another, coming on here at the moment .

It's pathetic.
Oh there's no poetry in your heart, Andrew. If you only got in one minute, you need to 'break on through to the other side' .

Re: what are you doing ?

Ha !
I seem to remember Mike Stroud saying that they'd been eating a diet of 70% fat for 3 months, but their cholesterol and trigyceride profiles were among the best they'd ever tested ..... however they had also lost about 4 stone, in Mike's case, and 5 or 6 stone, in Ranulph's case.

Good stuff.
Many years ago I saw a talk that Mike Stroud did about the 1982 sled-walk they did across Antarctica. That was fascinating.

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

There have a been a few notable exceptions to the fitness vs. weight rule over the years.
At the time I started and was following the TT results, c.1980 you'd regularly see Paul 'Porky' Bennett near the top of the results sheets. This was a guy who must have been over 15st, but could do a 52-minute ...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

There are two other factors in all of this -
1. What are/were your parents like ?
2. Prescription drugs

It's surprising how many elderly athletes will tell you how it's all about exercise and a good diet, but when you ask them about their parents they tell you they are both still alive in the late ...

Ray, I've just been watching more about the Shimano crank scandal - do you have any that are affected by the recall ?

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Some trials & tribulations there Mike !
To be fair, 20 to 30 miles is a bit far if you haven't done much. If i'm not on the bike for a few weeks, I still start at about 45mins and work up again in 10 or 15min increments. But even a 30min ride is enough to add some useful training, we're not all like ...

Re: Ears clogged with wax fixed.

I had the micro-suction from a one-man shop in Ruthin about 4 years ago. It was only £35 approx. Damned loud while it was happening, though.
