Having another “HiFi” day on the 17th of August. Dave is going to bring his Opal Events around to compare with my DIY creations, and chat and eat. All welcome.

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop

Thanks Chris. The driver has the 14khz wobble on its spec sheet in a tube, so it’s no surprise that it ends up still there. I have been listening to those ES250 horns for a couple of weeks now, quite liking the diffused sound from an open baffle horn. Going to try and get some Event Opals set up, to...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop

Just finished the test horn, shipping it out for evaluation. Bit trickier than first thought as had to recontour the inner after a late change in throat angle, plastic wood filler to make the inner match, as cannot add wood. Not my finest work, as cobbled together out of the firewood box, and glued...

There seems to be a certain amount of agreement on forums, that Fosi amps are worth a listen to. Amir on Audio science review says they measure well, putting then in the top quartile of the amps he’s measured.

Re: Cranage 2024

We had a good day, and bumped into a few familiar faces….. yes lots of stupidly prices equipment, some sounding nice and others I wouldn’t give it space in my living room. I made a mental note of the tracks played in the systems that impressed, interesting those tracks, via Quboz, sound really reall...

Re: Cranage 2024

Think I have already asked if it’s of any use in valve amp building, - the parts from a single phase inverter - lots of HV caps etc and a number of sizeable wound components. I will pop them in the back of the car and bring them to Cranage, if no one wants then I will drop them at the tip on my way ...

Re: Cranage 2024

I think Steve S is going Saturday….. so Dave and I will come on Saturday. Has Nick got a room? As the room info on the show website looks a lot like last year’s line up. See some of you on Saturday.

Wonder which day to go next weekend to Cranage to the HiFi show, will pick to go when others are going, so we can have a meet up and chat. So are most going Saturday or Sunday?

Re: Possible Meet-up

Just given my turntable a spin today, to make sure it still works for the weekend :D. The motor is making a faint rubbing noise, did someone post a while back about tweaking Nottingham Analogue motors? Assuming it’s a bearing….

Re: Possible Meet-up

You’re welcome, Steve, I have my Leonard Cohen albums primed and ready. Only no no’s musically are brass bands and Max Bygraves ( sorry Phil). Ideally I would like Chris to come and sprinkle some DSP magic as I don’t trust my ears anymore.

It’s the Cheshire HIFI show the week after, so Dave and I may see some of you there anyway.
