No, 'tis OK, Nick, it's all good. I reused the Marantz hardware and the copper coloured bits are the clamps for mounting the output devices to the heatsinks - they're a sort of shallow U channel shape.

Re: Recycling a Marantz Integrated Amp.
Job done! Marantz power supply recapped, Maplin lateral mosfet power amp boards installed - result = music The only very minor issue was that, whilst the bias current was specified as 100mA, the lowest I could get it with the presets was 126 and 131mA for the two boards, but everything runs and soun...

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System
The user handbook and the service manual are on vinyl engine. For now that may be all you need, but if you or your niece are interested in improving the sound quality over standard, there are several things you can do. I had a TD150 Mk2 for many years and applied these changes to it with very posit...

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System
Might be worth checking the 100nf cap across the mains input in the amp (if replacing use an X2 or X1), and/or adding a more effective mains filter. Would suggest its going to be susceptible to mains interference. Thanks Nick. I actually ordered a replacement cap over the weekend, though I am think...

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System
Seems that unplugging a wifi extender get's rid of the mains noise - not a problem as I only use it to get a signal in the garage when I'm Zwifting on the static bike set-up. In other news, yesterday I got her a first system upgrade - I bought a Thorens TD-150 on Ebay for just £75. The Thorens is in...

Re: Recycling a Marantz Integrated Amp.
Drilled and tapping today, I got the Maplin amp modules installed onto the heatsinks - not soldered up yet as I need to repopulate the power supply with the new electrolytics I've ordered.

Recycling a Marantz Integrated Amp.
I acquired a faulty Marantz PM44SE integrated amplifier, and after spending a little time diagnosing the issue I decided it wasn't worth trying to repair it. The power amp section was where the problem was but the rest of the amp was all fine. After checking the power supply, which is good, I decide...

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System
I gave it a good session today, mostly digital as I only have one LP (it's a good one though, Tori Amos, Little Earthquakes) and I'm really please with the sound quality that it delivers. I'll call this a successful project.
