Have enjoyed reading the resurrection journey.
Hope it sounds as good as it looks. EL84s have a good reputation.

Re: Ears clogged with wax fixed.
Love a bit of microsuction. Practioner here took pic of before. Yup, really blocked. After, can see nice shiney ear drum. Sweet. Only needed a day or two of a bit of olive oil, not Ear Wax Remover potion which makes it too sloppy to get out properly. So much better than the other methods IMHO like h...

Re: SV811-3
My take on this when coming up against the same thing was copy Rod's design. For the first time, didn't model it in psud. Even went for the same rated traffo just bit more volts coz feeding the lehane dht regs. Wouldn't have a clue what the ripple is in.

Re: SV811-3
Cheers Stephen, I'll take a look at Sketchup. If you do, I'll send you a sample layout of mine so you can pick it apart. It's best to make a whole bunch of blocks representing the parts and then move them round how you like and then group them further into modules. Don't whatever you do make it one...

Yup. Worked for me.Cressy Snr wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 7:45 pm Making a series of sub-assemblies then testing each one before moving to the next stage is probably the best way of going about things. The sub-assemblies (modules) can then be built up into the finished product.

Re: SV811-3
There's a lot of nice things in that amp. Choke input supply, beefy capacitance, choke smoothed bias, Coleman regs.
Tower style will make it small in real estate terms. I found sketchup my friend and it's free. Use it for all my layouts now.

Re: SV811-3
I have a similar beast, just PP. I use 2mm plugs and sockets, shrouded 1000v rated for HT internally. Iec mains to join mains between chassis. So only 4 x 2mm and 1 iec between chassis. I had smps feeding lehane regs and swapped it for rod's linear design. Smps won't be going back . Huge difference ...

Re: GM70 PP
Couldn't resist trying something that I'd found to be good in some of the previous failures; direct coupling stage 1 and 2. Not my idea but a DHT version of Kevin Carter's front end to his amps. Needing more HT, I made the front end supply cap input with the max cap value for the DW4 rectifier of 16...

Re: Quite possibly my last speakers
Now that definitely can make a good baffle. Or box, if you've got the money / patience / gym-membership. ;) I'm in the kitchen game and bench top suppliers/installers have a lot of waste material they need to get rid of. Many like to give it away as rubbish is expensive to get rid of. Well that's w...

Re: DIY Transistor Amp Using NVA Boards
I've never heard that term articulation be it more, less, too much etc. It sounds an interesting way of describing an attribute to the presentation; a component of the sonic matrix. Can you expand or point me to what this means in musical terms? Could be the thing that I feel but can't put a word to...

Re: DIY Transistor Amp Using NVA Boards
If I may take you back to an earlier post of yours .... "With 85dB efficient speakers, a solid-state amp of decent power is the obvious choice." Is the valve amp crappy or is it just not a match for those speakers? I would also wager that the valve amp you have there is hardly as max'd out...

Thanks Nick. That explains it real well and I should be able to use a multiwinding tx I have lying around.

Reducing HT
I have a question for the panel. I need to increase the HT to the front end of my power amp so I made it cap input with a 6u8 cap after a FW valve rectifier. It got me going but isn't enough HT. I'm experimenting by DC coupling the first and second stages. I want to go back to choke input (to rule o...
