Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

Blue Nile - Hats. Due to circumstances beyond my control most of my listening these days is via streaming on headphones, so last year I bought a pair of Sennheiser ie300 IEMs to at least try to make the best of the situation, and jolly good they are too. Today for the first time I’m listening to my ...

Re: what are you doing ?

if you try to play back recordings, are they easily audible? With the mic I used (which has now packed up) they were recorded at such a low level they were virtually inaudible, although it seemed to be able to make identifications ok. I was using one of these with the same Ugreen sound card: https:/...

Re: what are you doing ?

What mic are you using? Mine packed up a while ago, and seemed to have insufficient gain as well.

The Story of Nimbus

I picked this up from the National Trust 2nd hand book stall at Saltram a while ago. It tells the story of the creation of the Nimbus record label in the mid 70s, and the dedicated and slightly odd people behind it. I’d never realised how much they contributed to the development of CD before. Fascin...

RIP Marcello Gandini

Nothing to do with HiFi, but if music took physical form he’d be up there with the great composers.

Seem to remember Devon and Cornwall police doing this by putting officers in the upstairs front seats of local buses.

Re: The Quackery Thread

So, in the interests of scientific research and the furtherance of knowledge I just put my trusty Fluke multimeter across one of the tyres of my Honda Civic, and can report that a Continental PremiumContact6 shows no sign whatsoever of being conductive. Hmm.

Re: The Quackery Thread

Ah yes, but…. I used to often get a belt off Dad’s old Morris 1100, but only when I got out and turned round to close the door. I think what was happening was that synthetic fabrics in my clothes generated a static charge when I was sitting in the vinyl seats, which didn’t have a path to ground unti...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Mine ran out after two years. The bloke who replaced the meter said that wasn’t unusual. He also said that it’s perfectly possible to replace the battery, but they’re not allowed to. The only reason he could think of as to why not was to increase profits for the meter manufacturers.

Re: Interesting (non musical) YouTube videos.

My six year old grandson asked me to take him to see Concorde 002 at the Fleet Air Arm museum. It occurred to me that Concorde is more archaic to him than this was when I was six. Time flies. Sadly, Concorde and Heracles don’t.
