Re: North West Audio Show
Had a good day, but loads of really underwhelming sounds. Unfair to judge on bass, but mid range should be doable in most rooms. A few stood out link Nick and Colin’s setup, Cyrus and a couple of others. The worst was this one IMG_5317.jpeg Schuko plug pins are bigger than the pins on a 13A plug an...

Re: North West Audio Show
I went on the Saturday and enjoyed it apart from a few rooms were playing too load for what the room could take and also I missed a good many rooms as they were full to the brim with bodies. The little PMC speakers caught my attention - seemed to be very full bodied and enjoyable in such a tiny pac...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono
Question for Andrew - how much scope is there for increasing the distance of the heater modules from the audio circuit? Could they go in a separate PS box with umbilical wires to the audio box? This might be preferable to passing AC through wires between boxes? Or would this not matter if the umbil...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono
Is that a choke in the center?
If yes, try moving it, or, at least rotating it, the gap on any choke will emanate a nasty hum field.

Nice work, Simon.
PCB are highly rigid and inelastic, I used to write off the price of the first iteration when doing the heater boards as there was invariably room for improvement.

Re: It's time I built a D3a -> 5687 phonostage
If you drive it with matching Z you can terminate with a high Z, I think that approach is viable at 1k5, but 600R certainly makes things harder. To do this you need chokes that are happy at anode DC. A matching termination and those aforementioned huge caps avoid such issues and the sound quality o...

Re: It's time I built a D3a -> 5687 phonostage
In the days when we all started out, I bought 25, or so, D3A for a bargain price from a chap in Oz, it was a group buy, they are were a really good deal, sadly at least 20% of them were dead on arrival, white as a sheet inside :( We split the bad ones amongst the group buy, any survivors are probabl...
