My take on the 6EM7 SET amp
#1 My take on the 6EM7 SET amp
Since being at home these last 2-months I have taken the opportunity to build me a integrated 6EM7 SET with valve rectification, a unity gain buffer based on Nick's D3a circuit and a pair of Silk TVAs for volume control.
I'm really proud of this build being incapacitated as I am with my mending broken leg and screw through my ankle. So it was built with me on crutches and hopping on one leg!
Nick is coming over my place tomorrow night (Monday) to help me finish off the hook up wiring and not quite sure on and check out what I've build to date is correct. We hope then to hook it up to my MLTL speakers.
With the latest trend of folk giving names to their latest project I'm up to suggestions what to call this cool looking integrated?
Here's some photos of the build to date. Not the best of quality but you get the flavour
More piccies to follow.

More piccies as promised:
There will be only 2-inputs to the amp (CD + AUX) the extra 2-pairs of phonos are for PRE OUT and AMP IN. Jumper leads will be connected to these when used as a fully integrated amp.
With jumper leads removed it can be used as a power amp or preamp. Gives a degree of flexibility.
Well that's the intention.
I'm off now for a well deserved pint or two.
Hope to bring this little beastie to the November OwstFest.

Oh God! I can't stand it. Look even if I tried really hard, and many people would agree, I am trying, I couldn't get anything to look as posh as that.
Grrrrr, maybe mine sounds better. yeah right!
Hactually Hi Ham hinterested in this little spuddle type amp as you know I have championed the 6DN7 since I saw the Bottlehead SeXamp built one and thought Cor! (exhibited at Witham#2). I built a push pull version (for Witham#3) and was mightily impressed. Recently I dug old SeXamp out again, rebuilt it as the chassis had become a mixer and again.... Cor. But then I checked on the Bottlehead website and they've only gone and added parafeed for output and CCS on the input valve. Running to catch up or what -must get stuck in, this is compulsive.
My Barker version 6EM7 I didn't like much but DTB and I are going to 'compare and contrast' and I think we boys with little amps need to get together and swap notes / check'em out. This kind of valve is stunning and let's face it a 76 and a 45 (okay, only sort of) in the same glass envelope is amazing.

Thanks for kind comments guys.
As I say I'm really, really chuffed with the looks of amp and how it's turned out, especially as I've been hampered throughout the build with one leg in a plaster cast and a bloody screw holding my ankle together since my road accident. Still the cast is off now and the screw comes out in 10-days time.
I must say the satin finished copper is just the biz
Just hope it sounds as good. Fingers crossed for Monday night.

Colin.... I just thought of a great name for your new Uber-6EM7 amp.
"DTB's Birthday present".
Catchy and generous I thought
