From owning ESL63's in the past they really need the stands to make them work at their best. These raise the speakers some 300mm off ground. The ones I had were original Quad (I believe) and screwed direct to the underside of the speakers.
Be aware that 63's are notoriously bad travellers and it is essential they are in the original packing cases or packed in new bought shipping cases to prevent vibration and warping of the panels during transit. The panels are glued in place to the stators with a epoxy resin type glue and at over 40 years the glue becomes very brittle and the vibration or warping of the panels during transit can cause (and does) de-bond the two. Shipping boxes are about £100 pair from Quad I believe.
