#1 Mike Head, aka' little eddy'

Post by Ray P »

I have to share some sad news I'm afraid.

Mike passed away suddenly on Sunday 17th May. I know nothing beyond that.

I received a reply from one of his Mancunian friends this morning after I left a message on one of his rides on Strava and have since exchanged emails.

I have passed on condolences to his family on behalf of all Audio-Talk members.

Sorry to be the bringer of such sad tidings.

Ray

Here's a little more information;

https://www.messengernewspapers.co.uk/a ... heal_Head/

I've been having a follow up conversation with the person who contacted me via Strava and she will pass on all the sentiments to Gwenda, Mike's wife. I also offered that one of us, in due course, would be prepared to help his family use his audio kit, especially the stuff he made - if it's anything like here, they're probably a bit daunted by it. We'll see.

It was a heart attack and was a complete surprise given how fit he was - he had been putting in some long rides in the weeks before - just goes to show.

Anyway, the friend I've been liaising with has passed me Mike's wife's email address so I will drop her a line later. I'll point her at this thread as I'm sure she'll be reassured by people's reaction to his passing.

I had a fear this was what caused it - knowing Mike was a keen cyclist. Sadly this is too common, I've seen about 5 or 6 people go suddenly like this, either on cycling or fell-running forums.

edit : sorry, what I mean to say, is , I fear there's a connection, though we don't know anything for sure.

Very sad indeed. 56? Way way too early...

When I was coming up to 50, a fit colleague with a similar profile to me had serious angina and ended up with a multiple bypass - completely unexpected.

He convinced me to have a proper checkup every few years - not just the big C, but cardio too...
