#1 OT: again...

Post by jack »

So, it's not audio related, but it is DIY...

As there's an important date coming up (if you are in a relationship that is), I thought that I'd do something new...

Not tried stained glass making before... Two full days to make this A4 panel from scratch, but very pleased... I'll make a simple oak frame and leave it at that. Hope it's appreciated!

Ta. Just finished the frame - used Zebrano splines in a reclaimed (from flooring offcuts) oak rebated frame (resawn, planed/thicknessed, routed). Sealed with two coats of Chestnut Hard Wax Oil, lightly buffed with 0000 wire-wool to give a matt finish... The small pieces of Zebrano were left over from the backing of a neon sign I made her a few years ago... I made a simple jig so I could cut the splines on my table saw...

It'll be placed in a South-facing window on the main staircase, so will throw coloured light into the hall for most of the day...
Note that this was before I'd sealed the corners...

In situ...

Suspended by thin fishing line. Grey day, so not a lot of colour in the hall, but on a sunnier day, it'll be great. Min is very pleased 👍

Looks good Nick. We live in a Victorian house and I've always thought it would be nice to have a stained glass insert for the light above the front door.

Thanks, that's just what I would like to install. I've bookmarked it for reference - first thing I need to do is get something in chain to replace the horrible uPVC front door the previous owners installed! I've started to scout out reclaimation yards.

Have you considered something subtle like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333507583653 ?

😀

TBH, if we were building another house, I'd try to find a place for that! It's one of the nicest panels I've ever seen... 6' x 6'

Regarding the above link, Light Leaded Designs, as I now can appreciate the amount of work in these things, I think that their prices are very reasonable...
