I've taken anything from 200mg to 800mg per day. The type of supplement is really critical though. Many are very poorly absorbed and just act as a laxative. the best are amino acid- chelated ones, I used to take Solgar one but they sneakily down-graded the quality about 3 or 4 years ago by adding magnesium oxide to the chelate. I take 'Doctor's Best' which looks a bit hokey on the label but is made from quality Albion Labs chelated material.
The other option is using magnesium chloride via the skin, and this works , but is messy on a regular basis. I use it after walks when I'm in the Lakes. My friend Lenny says this is the first thing that gave him some relief from Tinnitus.
Foods are - things like dark leafy vegetables, most nuts, beans , but most food is declining in magnesium with intensive farming.
If it's the right sort, 200mg / day should give some benefit.

I found some Magnesium oil spray at home, so I gave it a try on Wednesday evening. It is a bit messy.

As I came out of the caf'e on Thursday (about noon) I felt a pain in the abdomen, and I just made it home in time before my bowels "exploded".

Was it the Magnesium ? Not sure but I've ordered some Zinc, Magnesium and B6 tablets from Lindens to try. They came this morning so I'm going to try 2 per day, morning and night to start with.

Wow - that's not quite what I would have expected. It does suggest the magnesium was absorbed though. Lets see what happens with the tablets :D
What was the problem that prompted you to try it ? ( pm if necessary ).
Sounds like someone had some in the house already .

Jeans Mun gave her the spray, but she's never used it herself.

I've always been lazy, and I thought it might give me some "get up and go".

Just taken the second tablet so I'll see how things are in the morning.

Not sure instantaneous results should be expected. They are not paracetamol! My understanding is the benefits will be realised after you’ve been taking them for several weeks which is typical for this sort of medication/dietary supplement and the marketing of Holland & Barrett if you are a sceptic.

I agree Greg, the "see how things are in the morning" bit was more about how my guts would feel, which, incidentally, are fine.

Neal, what have you against straight talking regarding bodily functions ? :)

Typically the downsides will happen quicker than the plus sides !
However if you don't believe a supplement can have an instant effect, try taking 500mg of Niacin ...

Looking for something to eat this lunchtime I came across a jar of Heinz Sandwich Spread.

Layered some on buttered honey soaked seeded bloomer and WOW, what a taste. :D

Last time I can remember having Sandwich Spread was on a prep school outing to Nonsuch Park in Epsom. That would be around 1959. I wonder if it’s still the same?
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Really interesting article about the 737 MAX and the MCAS system written by a guy who is a pilot and longtime software engineer. Thoughtful and well written...
