I've tried not to be too boorish by posting lots of rides but just for a change...

I did a good lumpy 40mile loop up onto the Blackdown Hills this morning.

It was dry(!) though overcast and breezy but the trip was brightened up when I got to Dunkeswell airfield;

It's a Boeing Stearman, dating from the 1940s when it was a trainer for US Navy and Army pilots.

It's equipped to give wing-walking experiences, just £400 a pop if you fancy it (though you have to weigh less than 77Kg (12st 2lb) so I can think of one or two that discounts!).

I think that's the same Wing-walking plane that turns up at Headcorn Ray, awethumne. Nice riding BTW. I've done about 5 miles this week into D'fud and back.

I'll be ramping my game up after Christmas, 3.2 miles a DAY, 5 days a week too, I'll be well-skinny in a week I reckon.

Pay all that money and still have to sit outside?! No way :) I'd prefer to have a go at being the driver...

Cheers Mr. B. Including my commutes, which total 35miles a week, I've been averaging over 100miles a week since early summer - it's paying off too as I just keep setting PRs on Strava. BTW, I forgot the numbers for this morning;

Departed: Dec 07, '19, 10:19AM
Starts in: Taunton Deane, England, GB
Distance: 38.9 mi
Elevation: + 2350 / - 2300 ft
Max Grade: 11.3 %
VAM: 491 Vm/h
Moving Time: 02:25:02
Calories: 1560
Avg. Watts: 179
Max Speed: 38.1 mph
Avg. Speed: 16.1 mph
Moving Pace: 00:03:44
Max Heartrate: 146 bpm
Min Heartrate: 54 bpm
Avg. Heartrate: 111.7 bpm

I've been using the spin bikes in the office gym too; this week I achieved 3.1Watts per Kg of body weight for the first time; that's an average of over 220Watts output for 30mins. I qualify for the wing walk too, I'm stable at 74Kg (11st 10lb).

New year resolution too - lay off the beer, cheese and piccalilli!

Very good, nice pictures, Ray.
I've got a couple of free weekends now before Christmas - been attempting a pre-Christmas fitness drive.
Friday - 1 hour walk around Denbigh including some shopping.
Saturday : 1hr 35 walking on the hills from Moel Arthur car park - very brisk weather up there.
Today - bike 1 hour 03 , conditions hostile again, cold showers and wind, but felt worthwhile.

Will try to do something similar next weekend.

I did a 20 mile there and back ride this morning, dry but strong westerly wind; slow first 10miles straight into the wind but flew after the turn. Second 10miles averaged 22mph and at one point I was maintaining more than 27mph on the level!

Short 34km ride with just over 1000ft of climbing - gentle outing from Goudhurst to Yalding and back...

Had an excellent sausage baguette in the very nice tea rooms on Teapot Island! The owners have a collection of over 8,000 teapots! Madness! Where will it all end!

Yep, indeed good.
I'm going to try & challenge more in the coming year. I'm cutting down the booze now ahead of Christmas and getting out on foot or on the bike as much as I can despite the grim conditions.
To this end, I will be posting my hill and mountain walks on here as if they were done on a bike  The type of exertion is very much the same :) Also it means I don't look like a lazy sod if I don't go out for the bike for a month while I'm training on foot for a trip to the Lakes.

Today's walk on Pen y Cloddiau ( N. of Moel Arthur ) was : 1 hour 17 @ 138bpm average. I took a camera up but it was grey and threatening, no sun. Nothing like the forecast ( again ).

Cheers chaps.

Mark, I've never thought of you as a 'lazy sod' but it'll be interesting to hear about your wanderings - and some pictures would be nice.

Another grim cold wet day in N.Wales, another failure for the Met Office.
1hr 34min @ 129 average
This path traverses below the hill I was on yesterday.

I must try & post the shot I had from November that was much nicer. I never did find my way around getting it into the thread from a picture-hosting site.
