For me it's a sensation in the ear, a bit like a mild ear-ache.
A bit like the way "Delhi belly" is used to describe the after effects of too much curry.

Yes, I get that, but the analogy would be using "Delhi Belly" to describe the result of having Pie And Chips.A bit like the way "Delhi belly" is used to describe the after effects of too much curry.

Over time the specific meaning becomes more generalised ?

I was reading an article on TD (Travellers diarrhea) and it states -------
" It has colloquially been known by a number of names, including "Montezuma's revenge" and "Delhi belly".

This.
Like listening to a cheap tinny portable transistor radio, with a poor speaker, all harsh treble, very fatiguing to listen to. My right ear starts going deaf and can even get tinitus.
That's my definition, it was Phil's saying originally.
Jeez wish I never mentioned it LoL

I accept full responsibility.
The sensation does not come on straight away, unless the sound is abysmal.

can anybody remember what the early computer game was called..that asks you to guess a 4 figure number and then tells you how many of the figures are correct and how many are in the correct location.
Sebastian said he wants to learn a bit about programming and I thought writing that might be a good starting point for a nine year old...I wanted to find an example to show him what it does.

Cant answer your question, but there are loads of resources out there for learning to code, maybe examples that are not based on a teletype might be a little more current

I've obtained a few LED bulbs to try on my car.
501 (12v 5W) and 382 (12v 5W)
When it stops raining I'll fit them to rear tail lights and reversing lights.

He doesn't fully understand the question he has been asking so I thought I'd let him play or see the basic app and then lead him through coding an example. I've loaded a freeware basic interpreter for him to play with cos I just wanted to get across the concept of types of boxes and putting things in the boxes and very simple processing of the boxes. He's just finished times tables and one of his older chums in year 6 has been leading him astray with talk of algebra and such. I don't want him to run first and then learn to walk properly. Anyway, he'll likely get interested for a few days and then completely forget about it for 2 or 3 years because minecraft is more accessible....we are watching carefully.
I know there are lots of graphic based program learning set-ups but I don't think that's what he means, and anyway I can't help there cos I don't understand them.
He doesn't have a pi...but he does have a pc.

thanks Neal, that was exactly what I was trying to remember.
