Ammeters ain't as good as they used to be! :D

How about a big cap across the ammeter? Would have to be bipolar tho.

Thank you, Chaps. These are interesting responses.

I have not managed to make any further investigation as the bike is off to France tomorrow. I shall attend to things when I get back. However, I have been in touch with the most helpful eBay seller who has offered to swap the meter, but this might be of doubtful benefit in the absence of knowing what is causing the trouble.

What I have learned is that Lucas are still in business and based in Brummagem - I had wondered if the name might have been acquired by some Oriental concern. But strangely, those products which we associate with Joseph Lucas are franchised to other manufacturers (probably in Orientland) and marketed under the Lucas umbrella and logo. A bit like McDonalds but might taste better.

Some eye candy for some of you chaps. Spotted as we took a stroll along the sea front at Blue Anchor this afternoon. The owner, who must have been well into his sixties said it pre-dates him. The bike behind is a modern Triumph.

I'd guess that a retirement cash lump sum might have paid for that Vincent. They're serious money, I'd love to if I could, but I can't (ever!).

Forgot to mention, the modern Triumph was being piloted by his lady...

Yups. The Vinnie engine was very complicated to make apparently.

There was an RE ride-in at Sammy Miller's Museum last weekend, I'd never been before, it was good.
The owner still does workshop tours in person, a humorous, informative and passionate speaker he is too.

The museum has some amazing bikes.

One for Baggy Trews...

My Bullet is coming along nicely too.

And he was, back in the day, a world champion trials rider and very capable road racer and scrambler. He was often involved in the development of the bikes he rode.

Bullet is looking shoddy!

Is Don McClean still a member?

Yups, my dad always rated SM as a top rider. One of my Dad's claim-to-fame was being accidentally ran over by SM at a scrambles event they were both competing in.

Other than writing 'American Pie'.... whose Don?

Dave, I never knew your Dad was a scrambler. Do you remember what bike (s) he rode ?

Yeah, he rode for a team based in Sidcup IIRC. By his own admission he wasn't very good at it but had a good time doing that and trials, hence the reason he got run over occasionally... he used to fall off a bit :)

I don't know what bike he rode TBH Popz, I'll ask Mum, she might know.
