Just curious why a 103R I would have thought such a good deck deserved better?

Aaaah, ta. I'll Google Orsonic Dude! :D I haven't seen a headshell like it before, looks like it offers a lot of overhang adjustment.

Its not a business sale dude I do not retail that product, me and 2 mates clubbed together and bought 10 as we have different cartridges attached to each one.

I have moved on with headshells and have 2 spare now.

Eh ?
The 103R is a better cartridge.
I have a Dyna XX-2 II in a drawer, because it isn't as good.
I've had a number of £800-£1500 carts in the system at one point or another ( loaned ) but the only one that beat the 103R was a ZYX R-1000 Airy.
Very few things beat the 103R or an SPU to my ears. They have realistic dynamics and clarity of tone that's hard to match with the 'HiFi' catridges.
When I can get some time away from speaker work, there's a SPU-GE waiting in the wings. Needs a suitable arm.

I too like the Denon 103. Got a backup too. Have yet to try a 103R. I've got a Koetsu Red Sig, Clearaudio Sig and many other things lying around but Mark mails it with his comment. Stock they aren't great but in a better body ... They are 'music' not 'hifi' IMHO.

Its all a taste thing re carts imo, im one of those who cant get on with the 103. I had a stock one, a 103r, a nuded one that got broken and a zu bodied one.
I dont know what it is that i cant get on with tbh, i bought a stock one to try a few months ago and still couldnt get on with it.

I use an at-150 sa atm, and have an at-f7. Both of these do it for me.

Closest I ever got to liking a 103 was in a very high mass unipivot arm I built specifically for it. I still had issues with it though

Biggest variation in this game is transducers so hardly surprising peeps get on with some and not others. 103 is super arm dependent. Look at the arms people like it in. Can't imagine it in a unipivot (no doublt someone will say otherwise) although it likes mass.

I would like to try the AT150 because the people that like it describe a sound/flavour I think I'd enjoy.

cheers,

Stephen

Ah!! The Teres motor - my friend (the one who got me into this ruinous hobby some 17 years ago) has that exact same deck and he's using that Teres motor on his as well.

With the special motor, you get Garrard-style bass with the refinement & tone of the Hyperspace. Can't see there being much else to beat it ( Nick ?.. ) - it's the only part of my system that I reckon is fixed for the future.

It would be interesting to use your Teres to drive the turntable I am working on. Should be easy to try some time if they are in the same location.
