I think Ali may be referring to the infection fatality rate. This will be driven to a large extent by the age distribution of the population given the increased death rate with age. So those countries with a older population will fair worst.

Which ever statistical interpretation you use, it a terrible situation. Boris and chums have screwed it up right and proper, trying to remain popular in a crisis was a recipe for disaster. Hopefully they maintain the lockdown having learnt their lesson. The data would suggest an easing at the start of May if the vaccine program keeps on schedule.

Not sure there is any real information that lets us think the delay was good or bad. From the linked article
"And so it is impossible for us to tell what would be the impact of not providing the second dose..."
And do you really think TB came up with that idea himself?

Just had a phone call to book me in for my first jab. :)

Sunday 24th Jan @ 12:20, but get there 20 mins early. Lavenham, which is about 40 mins drive.

From what I've been told you sit in the car, and they call you in when they are ready. Sounds like they are properly organised.

How a £20 gadget could save lives.

"One of the mysteries of Covid-19 is why oxygen levels in the blood can drop to dangerously low levels without the patient noticing.

It is known as "silent hypoxia".

As a result, patients have been arriving in hospital in far worse health than they realised and, in some cases, too late to treat effectively.

But a potentially life-saving solution, in the form of a pulse oximeter, allows patients to monitor their oxygen levels at home, and costs about £20."

I ordered one the other day and it came this afternoon.

Had a pulse oximeter for about 9 months.

I'm sure I mentioned it here. Takes the press here take ages to catch on...

The original report is at: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/20/opin ... monia.html

Last April.

We read it then and bought one straight away on Amazon.

Which one, Nick? There’s loads of them on there and nothing to say which is any good, or are they all much of a muchness?
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Anapulse ANP100 - it's pretty common and seemed well regarded...

Bought on 21st April 2020. I checked it against the professional one at our GP's surgery and it was about 1 or 2% out, i.e. easily accurate enough as you only need to know when it really starts dropping down to low 90s and below... Normally it should be at 97-99% SpO2 or thereabouts. Still on original set of batteries and two of us use it every day.

Bought a Braun in-ear thermometer at the same time... It was a IRT6020 ThermoScan 5 model, but no longer available from the vendor we used.

Edit: just noticed that it's Amazon UK's #1 bestseller in the healthcare section... I wonder why ?

I've had my first jab.

Very well organised, as I had been informed previously.

I was given the Pfizer concoction.

I had some "symptoms" yesterday, headache and short bouts of blurred vision, might have been a reaction to the jab ?

How are you today?
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.
